How to add an application to the dock on a Mac running Mavericks?

Hi,

I have listened to a podcast on how to add things to the doc but it is not working. I believe the command mentioned was command, shift, and t but that only gives me the option to hide tab bar or show tab bar. Can any one help me with this small but frustrating problem?
Thanks,

The command changed in Mavericks, it is now command-shift-control-t.

I think this is the easiest and the most logical way for me, since I'm the one who finds it so hard to remember keyboard Shot-cut keys.

1. Open the app that need to be kept in the Doc, for example HandBrake.

2. VO+D to go to the Doc.

3. Keep holding VO While right arrow and stop at Handbrake, than release VO.

4. Open context menu by Shift+VO+M, arrow down to option submenu, right arrow to open it then arrow down until keep in Doc and press enter.

5. There you go.

Hope it helps.

This is the most easy and convenient manner by which I do it. For some reason it will not work with QuickNav enabled so it must be disabled before the attempt to activate that menu whose name I do not know.

01] Ensure the app you wish to add is open. Regardless of current window, press Control-Option-d then use the arrow keys till VoiceOver speaks the name of the relevant app.
02] With QuickNav disabled, press the up arrow key till you hear ‘options’. Press the right arrow key then press either up or down arrow keys [matters not which but down arrow requires less repetitions] and press Enter when it says ‘keep in dock’. Afterwards, you can optionally re-enter the dock and move the app by pressing Option-Command-left/right arrow keys.

Basically to add items to you're doc you can press command shift a to go to the applications folder.
Next use the up and down arrow keys to find the app you want to add to the doc and then like one of the posters that have commented use control command shift t to add the app to you're doc.
