He just won't stop talking...

Hello Brainy Citizens of Apple Vistopia... I am having a small problem getting the VO Voice to stop talking on my Macbook Pro, running OSX 10.9.1. I use the Lee voice, at one time all it took to make Him stop talking was a quick Tap on the Control Key. For some reason, this no longer consistently works. Once VO starts reading, such as when a new Safari Page loads or I enter an email, the Control Key no longer works to stop the speech. The only way to stop the Speech is to move the cursor or to otherwise interact with the computer. Even this is inconsistent, as even when changing screens on my Twitter Feed the Lee Voice will sometimes continue reading the last text element even though focus has changed to another screen completely. This is only a minor thing, of annoyance when on the phone or attempting to talk to another Human Type interface , and I can certainly live with it. I am just wondering what settings I may have inadvertently fiddled with to cause this change in behaviour. Any and all thoughts gratefully appreciated... Sea No Evil.

Hi, while I have never seen the voice continue after pressing the control key I sometimes experience a similar problem which might be related. In safari, when interacting with a page, a key stroke appears to be repeated endlessly until I press another key. This results - of course - in VO continuing to speak just as if I had pressed that key many times or held it down. Do you get this effect only in some apps or system wide?
Running 10.8 here and it only happened in safari. Eventually the system will lock a key, for example it locks the up arrow and everything i press will be pressed together with the key. I can confirm this activating the keyboard help and pressing any key and it will be reported as up arrow and the key I pressed. To unlock a key, generally pressing only the key will unlock it.

Yep, it's exactly like you described. Mine started with the last Mountain Lion update and wasn't fixed by upgrading to Mavricks. It's kind of a big problem for me, as I have a 5 yo and a 2 yo, so I have to keep one ear on them at all times. With the control key no longer shutting up voice over, my only option is to take off my headphones and end up losing my place in what I was reading. The two-finger single tap on the track pad is equally inconsistent, and I can find no pattern for when it will work and when it won't. It's very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.
