I Have recently downloaded and installed emacs and Emacspeak. Everything works fine apart from the fact that Emacspeak does not respond fast enough when I hit a navigation shortcut it needs one second until it starts reading the line word character etc. I didn’t find any solution to that problem anywhere so it would be highly appreciated if someone could help.

A fix
A fix I've heard is to remove all other voices besides Alex, and have Alex as the default voice. This is particularly a fix, it seems, on machines for which the language is not only English. For further details on setup and usage, see this guide I've put together.

I just changed the system voice to Alex as indicated in the tutorial and it is working perfectly!
