Dropbox syncing on mac?

While syncing db on my mac, I find that along with the files, I have these dot files with the same name as the other files, said files get uploaded to my dropbox account.
Also, I'm shared with a folder that is read only. I then get another folder with the same name as the read only folder, except the folder name has conflicted at the end of said folder name.
