Deleting Local Mail Data

Hi all,

I'm trying to delete the data Mail uses on my Mac. I have several accounts with a lot of messages. However, I don't want to delete the data from the Mail server, just the local data stored on my mac.
According to High Sierra, Mail is using 205 MB. I've set the setting for downloading attachments to none but the storage space is not regained. I found the Mail folder in my Library folder, but I'd rather not go deleting files inside it unless I'm certain I know what I'm deleting.
So, can someone tell me how to free up disk space while still being able to access all my messages using IMAP? Thanks in advance.
