Hi,
Today I was given a rather old MacBook Pro running OSX El Capitan. I don't mind this as I've been wanting to try OSX for some time. So far, I've used the Voiceover tutorial, and am gradually figuring out the system as I go.
However, there are a couple things I need some help with.
1. Whenever I restart the computer, Voiceover doesn't start automatically for me. I can always restart it manually, but read somewhere that it's possible to enable it automatically in System Preferences under Users/Groups/Login. So far, however, I haven't figured out how to do this. Any ideas?
2. While navigating the sample web pages in the VO tutorial with the trackpad, double-tapping on a link didn't seem to work for me. I kept being taken to other areas of the screen instead. Is there something I need to adjust to make the trackpad work better?
Thanks.
Kelly

your welcome
your welcome, if you need help i'm always here. I'm really sorry for not helping in second subject, cause i don't know anything about it.
I'll try to help
Hi. I haven't been through the voice over tutorial in a very long time, but I never remember trying to tap on the track pad for links. I seem to remember you needing to go into Voice Over utility, then drilling down to enabling the trackpad commander. That might be in the keyboard tab but I'm not sure. Let me check. Ok, here's how to do it. Go to Voice over utility by pressing control, option F8 on the top of the keyboard. You should then hear "Voice over utility table general selected." Note that this might be different if you have been exploring things. Now if you interact with it by pressing shift and control option down arrow you will be in the table and can arrow down. I just pressed reggular down arrow so as I might have changed something years ago, i don't remember what so i'm airing on the safe side. I don't think you always have to do that since I set up my Mac differently. anyway, go down until you hear commanders. Using Voice over right arrow, that's the keys and right arrow together you can navigate across. You should find I think a check box that you need to probably press space on it or voice over space. Then to enable it, take two fingers and put them on the touch pad as if you are turning a dial. Twist to the right and you will hear a chirping sound and it might say enabled. Hope that helps some. sorry for the long winded explanation. Forgot something, of course. The first tab is track pad commander and is selected. Then there's keyboard and a couple of others.
Trackpad commander
Hi Kelly.
I can help you with the trackpad issue. For the trackpad to work with the voice over gestures you are using on the Touch Screen devices you have to hold the VO key combination and do a clockwise two finger turn on the trackpad, basically the rotor gesture in a clockwise direction, you should hear a sound when you do it and VO should announce that the trackpad commander is enabled. To turn it off again, do the same gesture, only counter clockwise.
Greetings Moritz.
