I recently updated my mac to the latest software a few days ago, and since then, while i'm navigating websites, I notice a clicking sound sometimes when VoiceOver reads a link. Is anyone else experiencing this and is there a way to turn it off?

I use this, but if you don’t like it, go to the verbosity category in voiceover utility and select text.
There, you can change how certain things behave. If you don’t want them to play extra sounds, you can select speak.
You can also check the announcements tab, as well as the hints tab if you want to change other settings to speak instead of play sounds.

I’ve got basically everything set to speak, or do nothing, so much more efficient, glad to see like-minded people

For example, I prefer to hear a sound over a link, rather than hear the word "link". I do this on my iPhone, and I used to do this when I was on macOS as well.😇

Thank you all for the help. I appreciate it.

Oh I never realised you could do that. That feels quite useful. I find on the Mac I use copy last spoken output to clipboard and it always copies the word "link" as well. Oddly it doesn't do that on the iPhone even though they are both said to speak "link".

Anyway I've changed the Mac to click instead and it does get rid of that problem.

Apologies in advance when I post a topic in a few weeks time complaining that my Mac has started clicking all the time. Please someone point me back here and feel free to roll eyes as required.

Sometimes a sound effect is quicker than hearing a word. Especially if you are reading long articles, etc. Helps with reading fatigue.

At least in my case. 😳
