Clean install of Mac OS High Sierra

High all.
Recently I decided to perform a clean install of the latest version of Mac OS, that is, to go to Disc Utility, erase the hard drive and launch the installation process. I've done it a few times in the past, so it seemed like no problem at all. However it looks like it is no longer possible to do that, as the "erase" option in Disc Utility is not available. Does that mean that performing a clean install has become more clunky in High Sierra, or there is a simple workaround?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Felix.

Hello there,

Since the High Sierra releases, I've done a clean install twice on my MBA. Are you using the bootable USB installer or the installer DVD?

starting with elcappitan, press command+shift+e to erase your hard drive or SSD.

I'm using no installer whatsoever. Is it necessary to create a bootable disc or drive in High Sierra? I managed without it before.

The point is, you have to go first to recovery mode by pressing command + r upon system reboot, wait a bit, and only then turn VO on. I tried to activate it at once and it would not budge, which confused me and forced me to go to Disc Utility.
