I'm trying to use the Chat GPT for Mac app but I'm having problems working with the Collection area which is supposed to be showing the answers to my questions. Every time I try to interact with the content of the sections, Voiceover seems to jump to a different area. Last year someone posted in this forum to interact twice with the collection, but it is not working for me. I don't know if something changed in the app since that post was posted.
Maybe something changed in the app, or maybe it is something that is configured in a different way in the settings of my Voiceover configuration. Any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated, even if it is to tell me that I'm not the only one with the problem with Chat GPT for Mac.

Why do we need an app for everything?
I use ChatGPT through their website, chat.openai.com. It works fine. Good luck with the app. What does it do that the web page doesn't?
You are right...
Paul: You are right. I didn't tried the web page of Chat GPT because someone told me the app was better when using with Voiceover. I just tried now the web page and it is very easy to use.
The only thing missing maybe is not having the option of using the "Option - Space bar" shortcut.
Thanks.
there are good reasons to…
there are good reasons to use the app. There are more integrations with the OS appearing for apps such as notes and xCode. Unfortunately, as it stands, the Chat GPT app is lacking adequate accessibility.
Disable cursor tracking
The solution to interact with the collections is to temporarily disable cursor tracking by pressing VO +Shift +f3. To me, the main advantage of using it is the posibility to take screenshots of any app very quickly to get help from Chat GPT. I hope the accessibility can be improved eventually.
Really? I didn't know this…
Really? I didn't know this trick. In the original chatgpt thread created by me the app was very accessible at the beginning but they broke everything around mid 2024. This app is cool as we could directly copy using standard commands and it'll also copy latex and code block all at once. Nothing that the website doesn't already do but it was better. I'll definitely try this.
Disabling cursor tracking
This doesn't seem to make a difference for me - I still can't get inside any collections. I just updated to the latest version.
Just to be clear - are you using vo keys to navigate to the collection, then interacting with vo+shift+down then trying to go from there? Or is there another way?
I use the web site, but I created a Safari web app from it so I can easily switch to it. It works quite well on the whole - unlike the main app I can also have it speak responses and the layout is nice, with headings to skip through chats and so on. The only thing that intrigues me is if the main app has proper support for sharing images - clipboard would probably be more helpful than a screenshot but either would work for me. But if Be My Eyes app ever comes to the Mac then there's probably little reason to bother.
Disable the chat history
The only thing that made it work for me is to disable chat history. In the settings there is an option to start new message with each new prompt.
Oh it works now
I went into settings and told ChatGPT to open conversations in a new window. Is this what you mean?
Anyway I pressed cmd+N to open a new chat, asked a question and then I did find I was able to navigate to the collection and read the response. This is regardless of cursor tracking.
To be honest, when I tried last time I literally just tried to read the collection that happened to be on-screen at the time and didn't try going into a new chat.
The web app still seems better to me - it gives me feedback to let me know that chatgpt is typing, the headings are nicer to navigate than horrible collections, and there is the option to hear the response spoken.
There do seem to be various integrations with other apps, though, which could be interesting.
Still I'm glad I can at least get to the responses now.
