When I'm watching something, or kistening to a podcast, around 20 minutes in, it will pop up asking for my touch ID to continue. I think this is an energy setting. where is it, and how can I change it? thanks.

This is probably really stupid as it doesn't make sense if you are watching something, but this wouldn't be the screen saver activating would it?

I went to System Settings, then Lock Screen and mine was set to come on after 20 minutes which I think must be the default.

Might be worth trying to increase that just in case.

Thanks. I got it set to Never and stop asking for my password. i'll go watch something now. Appreciate it. Chris, I'll check that out, think it's a paid app and for now, I'm all set spending more then I have to is not an option. Thank you though.

I get the authentication window, content is empty. The screen saver as mentioned set to Never. I'm using quick look to watch episodes as for some reason, ITunes has things added after I play them, even after i deleted the file. Ah what I mess I make... If anyone wants to untangle this, let me know.

In Lock Screen Settings, do you have the "Turn display off when inactive" setting set to never? Even if screensaver is disabled, the display may be turning itself off after the set period of time to conserve energy.

Alternatively, adjusting the "Require password when screensaver begins or when display is turned off" setting to not require authentication immediately, which is the default, may help in preventing the prompt from appearing.

. . . or you can open up Terminal, and type in the following command, then just exit terminal when you’re finished watching your shows:
Caffeinate -d
(Note the dash before the lowercase letter β€œd”)

This is hard coated into macOS, and has been around forever. It simply prevents your display from going to sleep, thus preventing your screensaver from enabling, thus preventing macOS from asking you to authenticate yourself. Great for watching movies. πŸ™‚βœŒοΈ

Amphetamine is absolutely free. It's a great little utility!
