Thos of you who have erased and reinstalled Mac OS, can you give specific examples of bugs/behaviors that it fixed? There's some general Mac stuff that appears to be "just me," but don't want to kill a day on it as a "who knows, give it a shot" thing.Thanks.

If you have, or have had..
If you have had a lot of old apps installed and/or uninstalled over a lengthy point of time, or if you have old apps that have not been used/updated in forever, a fresh install of macOS can be beneficial to you. While you will have to readjust your system prefs/settings, you will not have old cached files potentially bogging down resources, not to mention you will have more overall storage space to play with.
As stated above, though, it will do nothing in terms of VO stability/functuality.
HTH.
Migrating to Apple Silicon
When I bought an Apple Silicon Mac, I installed everything anew, instead of migrating applications.
Note that MacOS now verifies the integrity of the operating system during the boot process, and the system volume is read-only, hence difficult to corrupt. System corruption is thus unlikely. If there are issues with your settings or applications that weren't uninstalled cleanly, a reinstall may be the right option.
