Hi all. I'm putting this here, but this also involves my iPhone. I have a ringtone already downloaded, I want to add to my phone. I used Command O to add the file to library, but when I sync the phone, or look at my ringtones, I don't see it. Can any one help? thanks so much.

What iTunes version are you running?
If you have some of the iTunes version that include tones section make sure that tone is located there.

Hi Marco. Thanks for the response. I am using the latest version of itunes, you are miss understanding what I need. My file is already in the m4r formatt, thought I could copy paste it in to the tones folder. No luck I can't seem to find it.
Okay got it try these.
on the later iTunes version where is missing tones section follow the steps below:
plug your iPhone to the Mac
open iTunes
Select iPhone tab
interact with the device sidebar
select and stop interact with tones cell hit VOfn right arrow key I think is the last option under device
interact with tones table
copy or draw the tone and drop or paste under this section
finally press tab or stop interact and click on the sync button and just wait for the process.
command to draw VO , (VO plus coma)
command to drop VO . (VO plus period)

Ok the file is in m4r and is in apple audio format. I clicked drag and drop, only ot be told "reflection.m4r can not be dropped on tones. So I went to the bottom of the table, thinking i could put it in, nope.

that's why i said apple are in the habit of yanking features and adding bugs. at least this time they listened to their business customers, it's all about money.
i have six devices, and i had to periodically go to app store from each device and download each and every app six times? freaking ridiculous. and for those think itunes 12.7 runs faster, let me assure you it's all psychological, because i compared them side by side with multiple machines.

For the poster that said it works for them, info would help. Are you on a Mac? How did you do it, step by step would be great, otherwise big help. Said with wicked sarcasm. To the person who posted about the commercial itunes version, how could I run that on my Mac and have the other version as well? A bit confused here. Int he end, it's one stupid ringtone, and if I want it that bad I could trade in my six s plus for a 10. Maybe I'll just give up. Thanks all. I'm just annoyed everything I do doesn't work, and the icing was the "It works for me." comment.

The file name is this, exactly perhaps this is why it won't drag and drop? Reflection,m4r.m41 should I get rid of the m4a extension?

iTunes version 12.7 does not included tones section, you have interact may be with the tones table couple times will drop the ring tone
and 12.71 I think according at Mac rumors will included tones section to be honest I am not sure cause I don use the laters version.
iTunes 12.6.3 does include tones section I am using this version, I don't recommend to all of you don't know much about the how to use multiple iTunes library

I did this on my MacBook Air running the latest OS also with latest iTunes.
Here are the steps I did:
1. Download the ringtone from somewhere, and if it comes in M4A format, rename it to m4r. For example, if your ringtone comes in "Reflection.m4a", you have to rename it to "Reflection.m4r".
2. After you have everything, get a cable, plug your iPhone into your computer, wait awhile, iTunes should launches at that time.
3. Find your iPhone, then interact with the sidebar, find the tone section from the on my device, then stop interact with the sidebar. VO right arrow to find the tone table, then copy your ringtone and paste it in the table. Then hit the sync button. And your done.

I appologize for being a jerk. But I think I know where I went wrong. It's m4r.m4a so I need to kill the m4a extension. Thans so much I'm sorry for being so rude, Irish temper ;)
