adding an external folder to dropbox, can i?

Hello all:
i have some big folders on my external HD that i can not copy to dropbox, because my mac HD does not have enough space,
so, i need to keep these folders on there place, and ask dropbox to sync them, can i do this?
i tried on the app itself, but can not find something,
any help will be highly appreciated
