Accessible midi recording and creation

macOS and Mac Apps

Hi, I have tried using a Mac in the past but not very successfully. I went back to Windows for a few years. Unfortunately with my latest Windows update it completely killed my laptop. “Thank you Microsoft”. I think I’m going to have to take the bull by the horns, physically sit down with somebody who knows how to use a Mac with VoiceOver, and move to Mac. One of the programs are use on the Windows app top a lot is called QWS,(Quick Windows sequencing). This is a free, very easy to use, program for creating MIDI files which I use on my Yamaha keyboard. I believe in the past that GarageBand hasn’t been very accessible and I’m wondering now whether it is more accessible, is it usable, has anybody created any tutorials for GarageBand, or is there an alternative program that I can use to create midi tunes.

Hi!
Garage band in mac os is enough accessible.
You can make midi, too.
If it isn't enough for you you can try musescore for making midi by editing notation.
If it' very impossible for you musescore, you can try lilypond text based notation.
NYou can type notes like:
c'4 d e f |%1
g4 a b c |%2
<c' e g>1 |%3

It is my preferable way to type notes and process with python if it's necessary.
Or you can use logic pro for mac. Money money money.
or you can use reaper. Money too.
But how about accessibility in mac for reaper I don't know exactly.
Cheers!

Hi. I use Logic Pro X and Sibelius for creating audio and midi recordings and sheet music with midi playback. If you want to compose or arrange music and publish it for sighted people, Sibelius works great. I believe they (avid.com have a free version that allows up to eight parts/instruments.

I also recommend you google "logic.band". They have a lot of information to help blind people get started with Logic Pro and/or garage band.

Garage Band or Logic Pro X will give you all the access to creating midi that you'll need. Go to the website logic.band for tutorials on both programs. Steve that runs that page is the oracle on both. Hope that helps.

Hi. Garage band is accessible with Voiceover. Like other people have mentioned, Logic Pro is great. To the people asking about Reaper and Sibelius, Reaper is accessible with Voiceover. You just have to install the extra software that make it accessible, just like the windows version.
For Sibelius, the free version allows you to have four parts, not eight.

Hope this helps out.
