Writing iOS App Request

Hi
I am writing a research paper on my iPad. Due to the nature of the work, I have to open at least two documents simultaneously. I have various writing apps: Pages, Word, IA Writer, VoiceDream Writer etc. I use one for viewing the content I am getting piece of information from and at the same time opening another document with different app to write the research paper itself. The issue here is that I can not go back to the document I am writing without having to start navigating from the very top of the document to where I have been writing, yes I can use the navigation command to go to the bottom of the page, but sometimes I add explanation or do some restructuring for the content at the middle of the document or somewhere else but not the in last few lines. Is there anyway I can go back to where I have been typing when I leave the writing app then go back to it without having to go through the whole document up to the bottom?
I wish there is a solution for this, it is getting me frustrated and I don’t have access to my mac at this time.
Thanks .

Your cursor doesn't actually move when you switch away from a document. Once you go back to the app, touch around the middle of the screen and you should find yourself pretty close. At this point, double-tap on the screen and you should be placed at the start of a line near where you were. This works pretty consistently for me.

THanks Michael for the comment. However when I double tap the screen the cursor moves immediately to the top of the screen. This is a touch command for VoiceOver available when editing texts. Do you have any other suggestion? Thanks for the help anyway.

There are a couple of things to make certain are clear here. One is that you need to touch on the middle of the screen and feel around to get near your place. Next, tap twice quickly with a single finger. This willl move you to the start of a line which will hopefully be near your place rather than at the top of the document.
