does anybody happen to know whether (and when if ever) there are going to be any price-downs for the KNFB Reader app? Now it costs about 7000 russian rubles which is something of too much. Probably, it's not so useless to wait until cristmas eve for discounts to come...

Have you tried using the Microsoft Seeing AI app? It is free and does many of the same things that KNFB Reader does.

I'm not sure about KNFB reader, but depending on what you need it for, I'd echo the previous poster's sentiments. There are a handful of very comparable or even in some cases superior OCR scanner apps. Seeing AI, Prismo Go, Envision AI, Texi. Some of them require a little money, but none of them will cost you as much as KNFB Reader. It's not that KNFB reader is BAD per say, it's just very expensive for what it actually does.
Seeing AI
Yes, Seeing AI might be a great free alternative. The other nice feature of Seeing AI is that it also has a video mode for capturing short pieces of text. Nice for figuring out what is going on when your PC crashes!
On the other hand, KNFB Reader does have a number of useful features that Seeing AI doesn't depending on what you want to use it for. For example, if you are scanning a multi-page document, KNFB Reader will automatically take pictures as you turn the pages of a book.
There are also various import and export features that come with KNFB Reader.

Hello! Yes, I tried it a couple of months ago, and I found that KNFB gives the best text recognition (ocr) results. I need some app to demonstrate our ability to read printed text on our own, to my sighted colleagues. There will be a meeting next Monday, and I'm going to tell people about my volunteer projects plus show them various apps in my IPhone, including something capable of recognizing texts in Russian language.

Hello Remy, wow, I've never heard of Texi and PrismoGo. I hope, they can read russian printed materials. I'll give those apps a try.

I would recommend Envision AI. It is considerably less expensive than KNFB.
Envision has the ability to recognise multiple-page documents whereas Seeing AI as of this writing does not offer this feature.

KNFB reader
In case you don't know if you are signing up new with sprint or upgrading they will give you a free copy of knfb reader enterprise which gives you the ability to put it on two different things. I got mine free from them when I upgraded. Talk to the accessability folks at Sprint and they will help you.

Envision
I believe the languages Envision supports are growing with each update. I tend to use it quite often and I really enjoy it. I'm not really sure which app is more accurate. What I do know is KNFB reader does two things I don't care for. First, it just dumps its results in an unformatted block of text. More importantly for me personally, I've never gotten it to recognize anything on any screen, where as Envision and Seeing AI sometimes can. Texi also does pretty well, as does Prismo Go. Ironically, an app called Identifi which is both an object and text recognizer does a good job in thet department sometimes too. THough in that caseit just reads it out loud without giving you the text. Only way to save the text is to do a three finger triple tap to save it to your clipboard, then paste it into whatever you want.
