When the old grandfather dies: no more sound from Westminster Chimes after upgrading to IOS17

Good afternoon Applevis community,

I hope you are all well. Unfortunately, I am no longer able to hear chimes from the Westminster Chimes app by Luthersoft. The problem affects the light, full, and standard versions of the app. I updated to IOS17 on the day of its release (September 18) and was fine until the next night. The chimes were only sounding at a quarter til the hour instead of at all of the quarters, and by the morning of the 20th, there were no chimes at all. I have tried to clear the notification center, restarting my device, and uninstalling/reinstalling the app. I am running the current version (2.5.1, last updated one year ago) and have the third generation iPhone SE. The problem has happened in IOS17.0, IOS17.0.1 and IOS17.0.2. I have emailed the support address listed on the Luthersoft webpage but have yet to hear back. My notification settings are as follows for all three versions of Westminster Chimes:
Allow notifications is switched on.
Allow on lock screen, allow in notification center, and allow as banner are turned off. Chimes did not work even when these settings were switched on.
Sounds are switched on.
Under lock screen appearance never is selected for show previews, and notification grouping is off. Chimes were not heard when these settings were changed. Chimes were only heard one time once the app was reinstalled, at a quarter til the hour.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is there something I am missing to try? Also, do you recommend any alternative apps for chiming the quarters? Any and all help is appreciated.

Hi, What's that old saying about misery loving company? I too am having this issue and have, since the public beta of iOS17 appeared. I did report it to the app developer at that time but also got no response which isn't unusual for him. Still I hope he's alright. At any rate I have gotten the app to manifest a chime if it's running and in focus. It has also chimed for me with notifications set with allow on lock screen off, allow in notification center on, allow as banner off, sounds on of course, show previews never and notification grouping by app. This does get me some chimes but also creates clutter in my notification center which is easy enough to clear but is still not optimal. Others i know who have older devices are reporting that chimes sound for them with the settings recommended by the app description i.e. it doesn't need to be on in notification center. I do hope the developer if he's still around is able to nail down a cause and implement a fix as I do miss the chimes. I also harbor a secret wish that some innovative blind app developer would create another chiming app just in case we lose this one. Here's hoping chimes are restored to us soon.

Hi,

Though I don't use the particular app you reference in your post, I have experienced similar behavior with any time app I try. I have tested Hey Beeps and Diii Notify, and since upgrading to iOS 17.x, notifications for time apps and emails are silent. Alerts are on for emails, so are sounds, and I do not have them coming through the lock screen/notification center, etc. Other 3rd-party apps such as Instacart, Teams, WhatsApp work, but with regards to time apps and emails ... notifications are nowhere to be found.

This is a ships's clock style app, and it works if all notification settings are on, including previews. It works for a while and then randomly stops. Should probably try launching the app again. I'm happy enough to have the bells that clearing the notifications is a small price to pay. It is a different system for hearing the time, and only works on the half hour.

This works for me. It had gone silent with IOS17. Fiddling with the notifications brought it back to life. Keep trying

I loved chime, by black tree software. Had that o ne back on my iPhone 5S. I think it stopped working around iOS 15 or so; honestly can't remember, but I kept it around, just in case it ever started working again. I then got Talking Clock, which did essentially the same thing. That worked well enough until iOS 17 was released. Once that app walso stopped working, it occurred to me that I didn't really need those types of apps any nmore since I've set my apple watch to chime every 15 minutes with a discrete little bell sound. I hope for the sake of all of you out there who get enjoyment out of the clock apps that Apple gets them working as soon as possible, but for my specific use case, I decided that they just weren't necessary any more.

I have the DIII app working in iOS 17.0
When you go to Settings, Notifications, DIII, select the option "Allow in Notification center.
Now it should work, and maybe for other talking clock apps as well.

Marco!

I only wish I saw your comment sooner! Changing the apps I want notifications/alerts for to "Allow in Notification Center" caused everything to start working again! I now get notifications for new emails, and Diii Notify works as expected. I now feel I'm back on track with everything! Thanks again!

I re install the app, now it works. I set notification only in notification senter
