What happened to the Notifications page in the Facebook app?

Hello Apple Vis:

I use the Facebook app downloaded from the IOS App Store. For some reason, my notifications page has completely changed, and it will not read any of my notifications. When I open the Facebook app and double tap on the Notifications button, instead of giving me a list of notifications, the screen will read, "Search." When is swept the right the next thing read is "Message Friends button. I swipe again, and voiceover says, "Double tap with two fingers to interact." Doing this accomplishes nothing. The next line reads, "Upcoming birthdays." The next line reads, "Trending." Then, this is followed by the usual buttons of newsfeed, requests, messenger, notifications (which I have selected), and more. I used to get a screen which read, "Notifications," followed by people who commented on my posts, liked posts, etc. I e-mailed Facebook about this, wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. Nothing I have tried using Voiceover restores the Notifications screen that Previously had. This is driving me crazy. Any thoughts or help will greatly appreciated.

I think it's the new update because mine does the same thing. I think they redesigned it or something. It is really annoying though. I hope they fix it soon. :(

Thanks for your comment, Sarah. I was afraid I was losing it, ha! If anyone else knows of a workaround, I would like to know. I also hope Facebook fixes this. I hope everyone who has this problem will e-mail Facebook about it.

Hi, i think facebook haven't release the new update yet. I'm using facebook version 27.0 now. And i has no problem with the notification. Have you try to move your finger to touch the center of your iPhone screen? Don't use flick with one finger from the top of your screen when try to read the notification.

Touching the Notifications screen in the center does nothing except for Voiceover saying, "Double tap with two fingers to interact." I think I have a slightly later version like Sarah does. According to the Settings on my Facebook app, my version is 27.0.0.10.12

Thanks for your comment.

I tapped on the bottom of the screen to select the notifications tab, then with a two finger swipe up, moved to the top of the screen. All notifications came through, so you might want to try that to see if it works. Before doing this, though, be sure to close the app from the app switcher, then relaunch it with a double-tap. Hope that helps.

Hmm, interesting. I've never had this issue yet. Maybe it's not loading all the way when you click on the notifications button. I usually put my finger at the top of the screen when i click on notifications, then swipe or drag around the screen after that. It always works for me, running the latest FB version.

I don't have the issue. I can see my notifications fine. I think you need to reinstall yoru app as somethingn might have gotten corrupted. I have several people having this hapen and reinstalling fixes it for about a week or for good.

Susan,

While I know this probably won't be of much help, I thought it worth replying to say that it isn't just you experiencing this issue. I have observed this behavior on an iPhone 4S running iOS 8.2 and, as you say, there isn't much that can be done with the notifications tab in this state. Additionally, uninstalling and reinstalling the app does not really help.

Hi Michael and other posters:

Thanks so much for the feedback. After much experimentation, Michael, I am able to access the Notifications screen after reinstalling. However, if I exit Facebook via the App Switcher, the Notifications screen becomes inaccessible again. As long as I don't use the App Switcher to close Facebook, my Notifications screen is reading properly. I did this over and over, deleting and reinstalling, and every time I used the App Switcher to close the app, I lost access to Notifications. Michael, is it a bad thing for the phone to just keep the app running without closing it out with the App Switcher? I try to keep as little running as possible. Thanks to all for your help.
