I check news on different portals and lire is the app that fetches my favourite RSS feeds. I do not have to search on the net, I have a list of news in one plkce. Also, lire is accessible and easy to use. Before September 2020, I used previous version of lire and when a newly designed app appeared on the AppStore, I did not hesitate whether to support the developer and enjoy benefits of a redesigned app. Cheers and Merry Christmas to those who celebrate that.
I was happy using the free NetNewsWire which is excellent, but I saw lire get some good press on these forums and was particularly impressed that it offered VoiceOver specific options. So I now use it. I think there are 2 things that set it apart from NetNewsWire - firstly its ability to download full news articles is great. Secondly, I use it with my Feedly account and it seems nice and easy to maintain feeds direct from lire. I don’t think NetNewsWire allowed me to do that, or at least not as well.
My only gripe with lire is that sometimes it stops letting me select a news item - ie I’ll double tap it and it won’t open. If I quit and reopen the app it works. Might just be an VoiceOver thing. But it’s rare enough not to be too annoying.
I never actually did change any of the VO options as far as I remember asa the defaults were fine for me. But I’m definitely more likely to buy an app if the author is thoughtful enough to offer them.
