What is disturbing about "Do Not Disturb" in iOS 11

One thing I find a bit annoying about the new "Do Not Disturb When Driving" feature in iOS 11 is the fact that it always appears in my list of notifications on the locked screen after being a passenger in someone's car.

Why do I need a message/alert on the locked screen telling me that do not disturb when driving was recently turned on? This only clutters up the locked screen with a useless notification that doesn't make a difference to me and I have to clear or disregard.

Unfortunately there is no way of changing this behavior in the Settings / Notification dialog. Why can't I change this to a badge that will disappear or something that won't appear on the locked screen just like with other apps?

Hi Pete: I guess you're using Apple Maps together with VoiceOver as I do sometimes.
Of course, I am also a passenger, I however do no notification from "Do not disturb"... I suppose you should find that either in the "Do not disturb" or the "Carplay" settings.
I however came across another bug: I noticed turn by turn instructions tend to be interupted in the middle. Very often, the cut occurs when supposed to pronounce the street name, e.g. "In 200M turn right on F...." when the name should be "Fifth Avenue".
Did you encounter similar bugs? What happens when you're walking?

Go into settings, do not disturb, and turn off the do not disturb while driving notifications. That should fix your problem.

I set mine to car blue tooth since I never use a car blue tooth and the notifications went away.

I would be hesitant to try that, because it might not be smart enough to know my bt headset isn't some kind of car something.

If the notification keeps coming up, keep your phone unlocked while you are in a car, when the alert comes up, select not now on the options. Otherwise check the settings and turn it on, then turn it off. These should work.

I can't find an off option, just automatic, manual and Bluetooth.

IF you set it to manual, it will require you to go into control center to turn on the do not disturb while driving feature.

Yes, I agree with you. The "Do Not Disturb while driving" feature is a minor inconvenience. As a visually impaired person, I find it a little amusing and laughable. My phone assumes I'm driving when I'm actually not... Thanks for clarifying that there is no workaround for this feature. Maybe in future IOS 11 updates...

Some people are complaining about this feature, saying that they are blind and are obviously passengers. Really, folks, how is your phone going to know that? Fortunately, there is a way to disable this notification, and it has been provided as an answer to this thread.

Perhaps the phone could know a person doesn't need the do not disturb while driving feature is required, or desired, if Voice Over is enabled. Other apps change their presentation with this information.

I use Bluetooth listening devices regularly, and having my phone set to enable Do Not Disturb when connected to a car's bluetooth has stopped the nagging, and, has not affected my use of other bluetooth devices whether in a car, or not.

Best way is to go into the do not disturb settings, and set the do not disturb while driving to manual. That way you'll have to go into the control center and specifically enable it.

That doesn't actually get rid of the notification though. I guess the Bluetooth option is the best bet?

Yes, I followed the steps above to set this to "Manual" mode, but the notifications still appear on my locked screen.

Did you guys turn it on while driving and then turn it off? If you do that once, it shouldn't bother you. Also, if you unlock the phone while driving and catch the alert when it comes up, you can select not now and it should cause it not to bother you.

Do Not Disturb While Driving uses Location Services to help determine if you may be driving or if you are near your home, work or a predicted destination. You can turn off Location Services for Do Not Disturb While Driving. To do so, open Settings, tap Privacy, tap Location Services, tap System Services, and slide the Location-Based Alerts switch to โ€œoffโ€.

I'm thinking that anyone had better be careful withh this feature. I had my phone sitting, stationary, on my kitchen island this morning, and it very nicely popped up with a do not disturb while driving notification. They're going to want to fix that one.
