Hi Everyone,
Hope you are all having a good weekend and the weather is to your liking.
A new update to Weather Gods should be available now. I wanted to ship some of the features people have been asking for over the years, but I never had the time to finish until now.
1. NWS products. These have had an overhaul and I have tried really hard to make them VoiceOver friendly. Some of the tabular products, e.g. climate indicators and local records, were hard to read visually, never mind with VoiceOver. Hopefully these are much better. Different NWS offices like to tweak the layouts, so it is a continuous refinement exercise. I already have more fixes lined up for 4.9.8.
2. A complete overhaul of notification management. All notifications for a place are now on one screen. From there you can set up the regular notifications as well as weather alerts, storm threats, lightning, and so on. There is also a new settings screen called Notification Places under Settings → Notifications. That lets you control notifications for all your places. Easy to turn off a couple of places without loading each one and going through its notifications screen.
3. New notifications for Air Quality, Pollen, Heat and Humidity, Starry Night, and a Health and Comfort notification. Health and Comfort combines the health indicators into a single notification and can be delivered the night before or in the morning.
4. You can now ignore minor alerts. You can also schedule night-before notifications from 3pm. This has been requested by people who want frost and freeze warnings early enough to cover plants and so on.
5. Notification text has also had a bit of an overhaul. It now tries to give you a flavour of the immediate weather as well as what might be happening later. This is still a bit of a beta as I keep finding areas for improvement.
6. Forecast sources. You can change where Weather Gods gets its forecast data from. This is mainly useful outside North America. Tap a place, swipe across the top, and there is a new button to choose another provider on a per-country basis. For example, I now use the Met Office for my UK weather. The setting also applies to notifications, widgets, Watch, etc. This is an additional cost to Weather Gods which I am making free for everyone. I will monitor it closely, and if it gets prohibitively expensive I might need a rethink, similar to pollen.
7. Place search now finds much smaller places, e.g. hills and mountain tops. That does not mean the weather for those places is more accurate. Mountain weather is a specialised forecast.
8. European users can now use the European scale for Air Quality.
Finally, a big thanks to our beta testers. This update had a lot to test.
Hopefully you will enjoy the update, and if you can find the time to leave a review on the App Store it will help with downloads and store presence.
Thanks
Scott
