Weather Gods 2.0

Hi All,

Weather Gods 2.0 has been approved by Apple and should be hitting the various stores soon.

There is a lot that has gone into 2.0.

- Severe weather alerts for the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Greece, Norway and Italy. I may add other European countries depending on demand. Canadians can choose English or French for the alert text.

- There are two new Siri shortcuts. You can ask Siri if there are any weather alerts for your current location, and ask Siri for the current weather conditions.

- Follow me has been updated to (optionally) display severe weather alerts when you arrive at your destination. You can configure this (and other Follow me settings) in the Weather Gods section of the device settings.

- We have made it easier to quickly toggle notifications and severe weather alerts from the locations screen. Swipe down through the locations list and you will find two new rotor actions.

- Lots of bug fixes, including the various complications and watch faces.

Severe Weather Alerts HowTo

1. Make sure severe weather alerts are switched on in the main Weather Gods settings.
2. Load a location for which you want to enable severe weather alerts.
3. Double tap the notifications button and then swipe down to the severe weather alerts toggle. You will also notice that we have inverted the notifications toggle switch so it is now a pause button.

You can access severe weather alerts for a location by double tapping the alerts button on the home screen, or weather wheel. You can also get an indication of the severity and quantity from the widget. Finally, you can always ask Siri!

The Apple Watch supports severe weather alert notifications, but we don't give any more information on the watch. I'm still pondering this one.

We check USA and Canadian weather alerts every 5 minutes and the European alerts every 15 minutes. I believe we cover most of them - I have even received Fire Watch alerts during testing.

Severe weather alerts show up on the lock screen in a different group to the regular notifications. Saves a bit of swiping if all you are interested in are the severe ones.

You will also notice we have a new sound for a severe weather alert as well. It has been well received during testing so I hope you like it.

That's it!

I would like to thank everybody from the community who helped with the testing - there has been plenty of very good feedback which we have really appreciated.

As I say many times, if you enjoy the Weather Gods app, and haven't left a review, then please, please do so. It helps us immensely with our search engine visibility on the App Store and may even catch the eye of someone at Apple!

Many thanks and I hope you enjoy the update.
Scott

I just wanted to let those living in Canada know that the new version of Weather Gods has hit the Canadian app store.

By Justin on Saturday, April 27, 2019 - 00:21

I figured it hit the canadian app store already. It popped up on the US one a couple hours ago. I have it and am loving it so far. Will have to see what the alerts do when they happen.

Chicago the greatest city in the universe for blind nuts is not here. Nuts I still have to wait for the app.

Hey Scott!
Thank you for letting me be a part of your testing!! I really appreciated it!! I'm looking forward to testing other versions of Weather Gods in the future.

I do have 1 question though. I haven't gotten the update on the store yet. When I do, how do I get out of the beta? Will it be automatic? Or do I have to wait the full 90 days? I just want to make sure I don't mess anything up. Thanks Scott!

Thank you for helping with the testing - you were a tremendous help!

It's up to you. The TestFlight version is the same as the App Store version and we will be starting 2.1 shortly.

Or you can wait for the update and install that one over the top of the beta, I think. To be honest, I'm not 100% as I only ever have the beta on my phone!

You are welcome!! I'm glad I was able to be of help to you!!
Ok. Since it's the same, & you'll be starting 2.1, I'll just stay where I'm at.
I cannot wait to start testing 2.1!! Thanks!

I just got Weather Gods 2.0. I like what I see so far! However, just one tiny thing; I went to the about and the part where you can play sounds. I guess I'll be surprised by the severe weather sounder, because I did not find a spot to actually play it. Come to think of it though, the standard notification sound isn't playable either. So perhaps that's why the severe notification can't be tested either. Nonetheless, I haven't had the occasion to test the severe weather alerts yet, but I have them turned on and ready to go if the need strikes.

Thank you for such an awesome app!

Thank you, Scott, for an excellent update. This is one of the features that has been missing from this app which I have had to get through another app. That app will be removed once I see a severe weather alert come up and know it is working correctly. That could happen as soon as Friday, as we may get some severe weather then.

Thanks Mendi and Scott.

Never really thought about having those sounds in the sound section ... good idea though ... I will add them!

Hello,
I know it is may be a small country :)
However, how will the app work in Poland?
It is a pity that there is no Polish language.
The application looks very interesting, but I wonder if living in Poland makes sense to spend money.

greetings

Hi Gotong,

Although we don't have a full translation for Polish, I believe much of the weather information would be translated.

E.g. I just requested a weather forecast and this is a sample of what was returned:

Deszcz ze śniegiem. Min. temp. 0 °C. Wiatr pn.pn.-zach. z prędkością 5 do 10 mph. Możliwe opady 70%.

If you wanted to help translate the rest of the app then I would be happy to try and create a Polish version. I think I can also get Polish severe weather alerts.

Hi Scott. Just a quick thank you from me too before I head downstairs for the weekly get-together here in my apartment complex. I had never actually beta-tested anything before, but doing so for Weather Gods has been a lot of fun. The new sound is working for me as advertised, and I'm looking forward to future updates.

Hi Ekaj,

I'm glad you enjoyed the testing and thank you for all your help and feedback. It has been very much appreciated.

Last night, I got to experience the weather alerts when some really nasty storms decided to pay my area an unwelcome visit. I like how the notification sound isn't overly loud, but still gets your attention. I likehow the alerts are laid out and have how serious they really are. Nice job.

By Troy B on Saturday, April 27, 2019 - 00:21

I think one of my questions has already been answered above, I was going to ask if the severe alert was the same as what I get from the emergency alerts on my phone. It's true that gets your attention but I don't need anything that loud.

My other question then, and this has been going on for a while but when the app notifies me of rain in the area I usually get at least 2 and usually 3 notifications and I was wondering why that is. I have the follow me feature turned on so could the multiple alerts be from the different places close by and I get alerts from all of them?

This is a great app, I use it to check my current weather as well as the forecast for today and coming days because it gives me a lot more information than the native weather app that comes with the phone.

By Weather Gods (Scott) on Saturday, April 27, 2019 - 00:21

Thanks Treky Fan, glad you like them.

By Weather Gods (Scott) on Saturday, April 27, 2019 - 00:21

Hi Troy,

Probably the quickest way to bottom out the rain notifications would be to send me a feedback email if you don't mind please?

I've reworked the debug section and the information is more useful. Hopefully that can provide the answer.
