Voiceover and voice control on iOS 14

Hello. I am trying to use voice control with voiceover on my iPhone running iOS 14.6. I understand from an earlier podcast on this site that this was possible to do reliably an iOS 13. However, I am not able to get it to work reliably. For example, when I issue a voice command to double tap on an item, the wrong item is activated. As another example, when I am on the home screen and issue a verbal command for voiceover to swipe left or right, I am moved to a different screen but not to another item on the same screen.

I am wondering if this is a bug in iOS 14 and if anyone knows of any work arounds or alternative options? I have a repetitive stress injury and so I can't do a lot of swiping etc. on the screen. Thank you!

The command you want appears to be, voiceover select next item. Or voiceover select previous item. Then voiceover activate. You probably know it works a heck of a lot better with headphones or AirPods. Be sure to go into the voice control settings and read the voiceover commands, the device commands, the advanced gestures, and adding vocabulary it’s all in there in the settings. I hope that helps. It’s pretty amazing all the things you can do. Even lock the screen for dictate mode or command mode. All the text editing functions.
