VoiceOver latency

iOS and iPadOS

I notice quite a lot of latency with VoiceOver even when nothing is running and I'm using internal speaker or headset. 1: I can briefly touch an item on the home screen and move my hand quite a distance away before VoiceOver announces it.
2: Dragging around the screen often has delays.
3: Sometimes nothing happens when I touch the screen. It seems confused. I have to stop touching the screen for a while for it to work again.

I do not remember such delays in iOS 7.

Do you have an older iphone iPad? I have an iPhone five and it's slightly annoying sluggish. Also it could be app dependent, as audio boom says they fixed for the older devices. Launching and waiting twenty seconds plus to open the app isn't fixing it. If you don't have the latest update that might be a problem too.

Hello,

What device and OS version are you using? Did it just start recently? Have you tried turning the device off then on and closing all the apps?

I have an iphone 5 and 6 with IOS 8.4.1 and don’t have this issue. However, I recall having issues similar to this when I had IOS 8.1. I would select an item and nothing would happen. I select other things and again, nothing happens. Then about 30 seconds, I will hear the clicking and VO announcing the items I selected.

HTH and good luck.

I have the latest iOS 8.4 on a 5s. I just checked an iPhone 6 and found the same sort of very slight delay. It is less than the sort of problems you mentioned. There are times when there are those long delays too. Especially in Safari. Restarting sometimes does the trick.

I've never used Audio Boom
But I actually had long delays in other apps like messages before I restored my phone as a new device.
This regular slight delay I'm speaking of now is barely noticeable but I do notice it. I wonder if anyone has measured it.
Just go to the home screen with nothing else running in background. briefly tap and quickly pull your hand away from the screen. How far away is your hand when you hear VoiceOver say something?

I want to try this on the new iPad Air that has the triple core processor. I wonder if it is hardware or just the way VO works now. I know, I should write to someone at Apple and have them test with measuring equipment.
