Voiceover on iPad

I have my ipad in landscape mode. I find portrait mode hard to work in. Try doing that and go to control center and lock orientation.

Also the rotor will be great help to you. I remember when I 1st started using ios. I had no idea about that! When someone told me about it I thought they wre crazy. They showed me how to work it and man that made things make a lot more sense. I solved most issues from things I couldn't do on the rotor.
Then when Ios. 10 came out, I learned that there was a whole section in settings for rotor controls!

I started using VO on an iPad and got an iPhone about a year later. Here are some things that I've learned about the differences between the 2 devices using trial and error:
. On an iPad, there are 2 panes for applications, which I know you've discovered already. This may take some getting used to. A good start to figuring this out is in the Settings app, for example. On an iPhone, there is no split screen; once you tap on a settings category, (e.g. general), only the options in general will be displayed, not the general options and a list of the settings categories. On the iPad, the categories are displayed along with the options within a category. Using explore by touch is very helpful here, since moving to the top of the screen will take you to the Settings heading, not the back button. This is true for many iPad apps that have been optimized.
. braille screen input. on an iPhone it is in landscape, and you type with the screen facing away from you. on an iPad, it is in portrait, (there is enough room for both hands), and you can type much the same way. Since the screen is bigger on an iPad, you will need to calibrate your finger positions at regular intervals; double-tap all of your fingers at once when they are in the braille writing configuration.

Is there a Bluetooth keyboard shortcut to switch from one pane to the other. For example from the messages list to the active conversation on iMessage? Also does Single key navigation work with apps, or only when web browsing?)

Single key navigation works anywhere there is support for it, you can use it, for example, in Settings to navigate through the items that are recognised as buttons using the B key. Now for the navigation between items in the fashion you described, this is navigating through containers, use VoiceOver commands in Accessibility>VoiceOver>Commands to find the command for navigating through containers or to assign new ones.

Oh interesting. Nothing was happening when I was pressing VO plus Q in the mail app the other day, and it happened in a few other apps as well.

On check boxes and combo boxes, is there a single key for those? Or are those included in form fields? I can’t find anything on the keyboard shortcuts.

Things may have changed since I messed around with the iPad 2 years ago, but at that time, you could press control right arrow to go to the next Container and control left arrow to go to the previous Container. Single letter navigation is not turned on with VO+Shift+q, that would be for Single letter QuickNav. Single letter QuickNav allows you to jump around websites and other apps that have elements like headings, form controls, etc. With iPadOS 15, you may not be getting announcements of the status of QuickNav, I was not. If it's not being indicated for you, head over to Settings>Accessibility>VoiceOver>Verbosity>QuickNav, and decide how yo u would like to be notified when the status of QuickNav and Single Letter QuickNav change. I hope this helps some.
