VoiceOver Haptics Crashing

Hi all, has anybody noticed that the haptic feedback from VoiceOver will freeze up and stop working sometimes? I frequently notice it happening when I am typing a lot using Braille Screen Input, and I've noticed the freeze occuring the most frequently in the Discord app, although it happens in any app where I'm typing a lot with BSI. Usually a VoiceOver restart fixes it temporarily, although it freezes up again relatively quickly. It can get to a point where restarting VoiceOver does not fix the haptics, and I then have to restart my phone. The weirdest part about it is if I wait until I can't get haptics back at all to restart, my phone cannot shut down. I will tell it to power off and it'll make the shutdown audio cue, but then it just freezes on the "power off" button for about 30 seconds before going back to my lock screen, which I know because VoiceOver will still talk if you interact with the screen the entire time. I have to force restart it. So I usually just do a restart the first time the haptics freeze up.
I'm running iOS 26.4.2 on an iPhone 17 pro. I'm not beta testing so I don't know where to report this.

Have you tried resetting VO settings? I don't mean resetting the entire device, but just VO? Could help.
Also I would consider reporting to accessibility@apple.com. Even though this may or may not be a VO issue directly, you are a VO user and have noticed VO haptics causing issues with BSI.

HTH.

Hey, I didn't think of resetting VoiceOver settings. I'll see if that corrects the problem.

I was going to suggest the same thing as Brian. I’ve gotten out of a lot of weird things with voiceover by resetting those settings just for the voiceover part. I think it’s awesome. That way we finally have that as a feature for the phones. I haven’t seen this, but I have seen my iPhone 15 full screen just kind of freeze up as though the phone is locked and it seems to happen if I’m swiping on something fast like it can’t keep up with me or something and that’s just kind of had to sort out when I own. I don’t think it’s quite the same issue but hopefully you’ll get this figured out.

I have said this before in another thread, but I find my SE 3 is a lot more responsive if I disable haptics. The sad thing is, there was a time when the iPhone didn't even have them, now most of us can't seem to go without them.
Irony. 🙄

Hello. Yes. I have this problem too. Usually, this happens when I connect the device to the charger. The haptics become very weak and I have to restart the device. The device is an iPhone 16.

I’m going to try turning them off on my SE through see if I like it. If not, I’ll put them back on. My first iPhone was an iPhone 8 so I already had the haptics when I got a iPhone. I do know that there were iPhones that never had them because my sister actually gave me an old iPhone 5 so I played with that a bit too, but as far as an official phone, my first iPhone eight. The five doesn’t work anymore. But it did for a really long time even like last year so yeah.

Thanks to whoever do not have this issue. 26.4.2 and 16 pro max. Just VO and notification. LLC.

I just turned off haptics on the SE three. So we’ll see how this goes. So far I kind of like it. I do find the little haptic tactile bump in my hand. Sometimes it was a little bit strange so I might actually like this better. I did it by shutting off the vibration. So if you go into settings, and then Accessibility, and then you go down to touch you all the way down vibrations is a time turning it on or off. So that’s how I did it that way if I want to put it back on, I could just go back in there and check on the vibrations again. A little bit tricky when my phone is muted mine is right now because you don’t get the for when dictation is being activated as I had all my have to explain all the time even in silent mode so there’s that tiny bit of part disadvantage but I think I’ll get used to it. And if I don’t like this, I could just put them back on with the vibration, toggle and touch Accessibility.
