VoiceOver and Bluetooth headsets

I’ve been using iOS devices for many years and love them in general. However there is one very annoying issue for which I do not have a solution and I am not quite sure if it is a bug or just my own ignorance.
When Bluetooth headset is connected to my iPhone and I receive an incomming call after a∷epting it with the button on headset the audio from call is directed to the iPhone’s innternal speaker instead of headset. It does not depend on the iPhone’s model, iOS version or headset model. Sometimes it happens when I listen to music.
Reading posts and discussions on this forum I do not see this topic covered so I guess that I missed a setting that may affect such behavior. So I would be very grateful if someone could point me the solution.
Thanks in advance.

Yep, I too am observing this issue and I must say that it is very irritating. I recently started using iPhone full time since last month and faced this issue every single day.

You should be able to fix this. Go into accessibility, touch, call audio routing. There you should be able to change it to bluetooth headset.

No idea why this option is under touch, 😬

Nes, after a fix provided above the issue is gone. Sure, I should ask about it several years ago and avoid so many times of frustration which I had.

Probably because I've rarely taken a look at the Touch settings on my iPhone 7. But I just did that, since I've had some "me" time--or at least a bit of it anyway--and my phone is just to the right of my Mac as I write this. My blue-tooth headset needs to be charged again, but I toggled this setting to Automatic so we shall see what happens. I've developed a slight hearing loss, so I think phone calls/texts coming through my headset will be handy. Thanks for the tip! It is now just after supper, and a neighbor was down here a few hours ago. I pulled my headset out of the drawer, put it on, and powered it up. I asked him to text and/or call me, and at first the call still came from my phone's speaker. But then I took it into my bedroom and he texted me. All sound came from the headset. So it looks like I'm good to go.
