I updated to iOS 11 on my iPhone SE yesterday. Today I checked Cover Sheet just to see what it was all about. Ever since that time, when I unlock my phone and end up on the lock screen, there is a View Notifications button before the Press Home to Open button. There are no older notifications to view since I have seen them all, and this is reported to me each time I press the view notifications button. I would like to make this useless button disappear. It is not present on any of my other iOS 11 devices and was not present on this SE before I used Cover Sheet. Any help would be lovely. Thank you.

Not quite a useless button
Here is where the View Notifications button comes into play. Suppose you access your device and there’s a notification, but you’re in a hurry and don’t have time to check it out right now. You go ahead and unlock the device and do whatever you were going to do, but then you lock the device without going back to check the notification you saw earlier. The next time you wake up the device, the lock screen will show no notifications, because there haven’t been any since the last time you used it. At this point, pressing the View Notifications button will reveal the one you saw earlier but didn’t interact with, under the heading for Earlier Today, or Yesterday, or whenever the notification was.
Where the button is useless, and I agree it should be removed, is when you access the cover sheet after the device is unlocked, such as by focusing on the status bar and swiping down with three fingers. In this situation, earlier notifications are already visible, so the button no longer has any purpose. The reason the button is still there is because the cover sheet is virtually identical to the lock screen and has the same set of controls.
I understand why Apple merged the lock screen and notification center in iOS 11, since they were pretty similar under iOS 10, but it does make the interface a little awkward right now. Hopefully Apple can polish things up in later versions, so that the user experience is smoother than it is now.
Great, thanks for the info.
Great, thanks for the info. Hopefully, as you say, Apple can get rid of this button when there are actually no earlier notifications to view in a future update. Have a great day!
