Utterly baffled re app going inaccessible

Hi Guys,
Does anyone know why an app would suddenly become 100% inaccessible? There have been no updates and yesterday it worked fine. Now August Alink for Bluetooth speaker WS150 simply doesn't work. You can't even use screen recognition as that isn't a rota option. I'm using iPhone 11 iOS 14.6. Anyone else seen this with either this app or actually any app just going bonkers lol. Oh even tried a uninstaal and a phone hard reset and no luck.

Hi, I experienced the same behaviour, but with a different app. I have an iPhone 11 and am using iOS14.6. I was on Clubhouse, amidst a long conversation, when the app went to the status line at the top of the screen, and no matter what I did, I couldn't navigate anywhere, even after a hard reset of my iPhone, and multiple reinstalls of the app. As other friends haven't experienced that, and as far as I can tell the app hasn't been updated for a few days, it's baffling when something like this happens.

I've not seem that, well I have but for me I just touch in the app and it normally works again.

I've seen that, and I just touch until I hear speech and it works fine after that.

I think someone is having this issue in bitlife, it's on another forum topic on here.
I'm not having any issues, but boy am I glad I downgraded from iOS 14.6 after having charging issues, but that's another topic for another day.

Hi Tanya,
Yes just shows the status bar and by moving around you just get the click sounds and nothing else. I take it you didn't manage to fix it so you can't currently use that app? So, it seems there is no obvius reason and no fix. Not good.

set the rotor to vertical navigation. Swipe down. This sometimes puts you in the place where you want to be. Then the app becomes usable. Doesn't always work, but most of the time it does.

Hi Lee, After verifying that other blind friends were not having the same issue with Clubhouse, I had more luck the second time I called Apple Accessibility. I was asked to turn off all screen recognition features, then to reboot my iPhone and hey presto, I was back in the land of Clubhouse again.

after many apps experiencing the same issue, found a workaround. It appears that iOS 14.6 sometimes turns screen recognition on without user imput. If this happens, open the app switcher. Place focus on the desired open app. Then use your rotor to turn to screen recognition. It's probably on. Turn it off.

Hello everyone. A similar thing started happening for me three days ago. In my case, it is the Screen Recognition feature that is broken. When it is on, any and every app becomes unusable - I just get the status bar. Just turning the feature off doesn't help unless I also remove any selections from the Apply to Apps setting in the Screen Recognition group, and then turn Voiceover off and on again. There are a couple of apps I have that are only usable when Screen Recognition is on, so now those apps are not usable. I've noticed that when you re-enable Screen Recognition, about 40Mb of infommation is downloaded from Apple. I'm guessing that a recent change to this information has inadvertently broken the feature.

Now that you've mentioned it, for me, it's the native weather app.

I can swipe around and get the usual voiceover sounds, but voiceover simply doesn't speak.

I even uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but still get the same result.

Hi Tanya,

Ok that sorted it. Equally interestingly, in the Screen recognition selection area of voiceover it then has a list of apps that are using SR. This app was turned on even though I'd never done anything to turn it on. So I unticked this and it is still working. So maybe SR is turning itself on for apps for no obvious reason. Pain but maybe we have a fix that will work each time it happens.
