Hi everyone! I’ve been using Siri voices on my devices since iOS 12, and it’s been quite a ride. Recently, with iOS 17, I’ve noticed some changes, including a decrease in quality and occasional crashes with the new Siri voices. What’s interesting is that some folks actually prefer these new voices over the old ones.
I'm curious to hear your thoughts on why you think the new Siri voices are better than the old ones!

I partially agree
I have been using the Siri voices too, specifically voice 4. Other than the iOS 16 crashes, I loved this voice. Now in iOS 17 its inflections are a little different (hard to explain exactly how), and I really don't like it. There is no voice that I like now despite the many many options available :(
I like them
I just tried one of the new British Siri voices and I just liked how it sounds. She has some weird inflections sometimes, but that's completely expected for artificial voices anyway.
Not crazy about them either
While Eloquence is my daily driver, I use SIRI Voice 4 during some tasks and I like the way she sounded prior to iOS 17.
I really like Siri voice 4.
She annoyed me from the day I heard her when I got my first iPhone five years ago, and this is the first time I've liked her. I stopped using her as soon as I learned how to download the Australian voices, but I like voice 4 so much I've decided to keep her for a while. She just sounds more cheery and alive to me.
I like the new UK Siri voices
Hi! Since I installed IOS 17 a couple of days ago, I have tried the two new UK English Siri voices: in spite of inflection and pronunciation issues, I must say that I like them both. I tried them both with VoiceOver, but they didn't sound quite right for that to me, so my VoiceOver voice is now Kate, as it was in IOS 16. I have chosen to use voice 3 when I talk to Siri, after using voice 1 for a few years.
Siri
Ever since I found male Siri voice three, I'm not even interested in any others.
I love UK male siri voice 4.
It's a black male voice from the UK and it's replaced alix.
I like Norah
Especially when American Voice 4 says Buy or Bye. So cheerful!
I can’t use my iPad
I can’t use Siri voice three and four on my iPad for some reason
I 100 Percent Agree!
I've noticed this from the dev betas earlier this summer and dismayed is an understatement. Once I find a voice I like, I stick with it. I prefer the Siri voices, particularly US English Voice 4. However, it seems only the US English voices are affected. Their download size has been seriously compressed, under 70 MB rather than about 400 MB. They sound like grainy, choppy garbage. I can't stand the way they sound, it's not a pleasant experience at all. I don't get the change, because the two new UK Siri voices are large files and sound great! I'm using UK English voice 3 for now. I don't get the change, and I don't get how anybody could consider this an "improvement". I had to do some device resets, or I'd still have the old voices active, an odd quirk I noticed if you have them downloaded when you upgrade. However, that option no longer exists.
There is only one way to tease out the old Siri voices, and that's to set them up in a custom VoiceOver Activity, where it'll still let you download them last time I checked a few weeks ago, which is very odd.
That was rambling, but long story short yeah, the new changes suck and we should have the choice of which Siri voice versions to use, much like with the Nuance voices which have standard, enhanced, and premium.
I've moved back to alex.
It's because he can read punctuation correctly. These voices, at least the UK ones, just can't do it.
I prefer the UK premium
I came across it by accident. I am not certain if it is a new voice overall, but Serena with the premium voice selected. It has become my One voice to rule them all at present.
I think Alex will always be my favorite
With the Alex/Samantha glitch going on, I started looking for another voice I could tolerate. I use Nathan on my computer with JAWS, so thought he would be acceptible for the phone, but the reality is that Alex is usually the easiest to understand and sounds the most lifelike, at least to my ears.
I totally agree!
I totally agree that the siri voices for American english are horrible now! I just sent an email to apple accessibility, and asked them if there's any way to get the voices to download as the larger size, and not this crappy stuff that we have to deal with now! I'm having a hard time finding a voice that I like now, thanks to apple.
