Is there a way to turn off the new iPad gestures?

I am an active gamer and I am having problems playing portrait mode games because the new gestures are getting in my way all the time. I only have my iPad because it will take some time before I can get a new phone. Is there a way to turn off the new gestures? Especially Crafting Kingdom and Blindfold games and Adventure to fate are giving me a hard time.

Hi Sabrina,

I don't think there is any way to turn off the gestures, whether you are using VO or not. They don't impact my playing of Crafting Kingdom at all, and to be honest, they're really useful.

Seeing as these gestures are the only ways to get to the control center and notification center, i don't think it would be a smart choice to turn them off, seeing as you might forget to turn them back on when you needed them. Also when you put your finger right above the home button or right in the middle of the status bar and the lowest pitch plays, it doesn't really do anything. When you move your finger away or swipe, it stays in the app you are currently running. These gestures might be cumbersome, though, in games that run Unity, seeing as VO is not running in the foreground when playing them. On my phone, I have had some issues with the flick-up gesture and the control center (the phone isn't X-style.)

Hope this helps you, at least a little.

Sincerely,
Maddy

@Ishkabibble, just to clarify, the new gestures are not the only way to get to control centre and notification centre. You can still use the old method of putting VoiceOver focus on the status bar and swiping up or down with three fingers.
Equally, on iPads that still have a home button, you can of course use that for home and app switcher.
While I like the new gestures overall, I agree with @Sabrina that it would be nice to have the option to turn them off, at least on devices that have the home button.

I agree this would be nice, but it is Apple afterall so giving users choices really doesn't exist.
