Hi friends.
Still trying to find a solution to the WhatsApp issue where phone numbers are spoken for group members who are not in your contacts.
I came up with a solution which was to add entries to voice-over's speech dictionary, replacing numbers from 0 to 9 with spaces. It ended up having unpleasant side-effects, as it also stopped speaking things like number of unread messages or message durations. Is there anything smarter to do? Like conditional entries where a number list preceded by the plus sign could be replace with a space?
Thanks for your help,
Cheers,
JPR

short answer: you can not
unfortunately, there is not a feature like that. consider adding those numbers to your contacts, or add the whole number to the dictionary, in case you do not want to add so many people to your contacts. Hopefully someone can think of a better way.
WhatsApp
They have actually fixed that, now names are spoken.

@Fenrir I'm afraid not. Names are spoken, but numbers are spoken to, and this is really time-consuming in a WhatsApp group.
In another thread, I explained I tried to reach WhatsApp support but no success. I'm really wondering what to do and if there is another way to make them aware of the issue. Well, as WhatsApp belongs to Facebook, maybe Facebook support would be a better idea, as they have an accessibility dedicated support form, but we need to be numerous to report that.

Fortunately, WhatsApp is one of the items you can select in their support form. It's laid out a bit strangely because you first have to type your Facebook account link and select a Facebook product such as Facebook for iOS, but then WhatsApp appears in the Facebook products list, so please, anyone, report this issue for good.
Thanks
