text tone volume

I've noticed a weird glitch with the text tone volume. I'll explain it as best as I can. I don't know if this was something I noticed with my iPhone 15 or not. I think so, I think this has been an iOS 26 thing.

So, previously, if my sound volume was set to 40 percent in the settings > sounds > sound volume, it'd stay that way. With change with buttons turned off, if I ever adjusted the volume on my phone with the volume buttons, however loud it was, that's how loud my text alerts would be.

Now, no matter how loud I may have the phone, the tones remain very quiet. Same with WhatsApp. I'm not sure if there's a setting somewhere that I don't know about or if this is a bug. It's a little annoying, because I don't want my ringer super loud but I want to be able to adjust my alert volume.

Hopefully I explained it well enough. if it matters, I have audio ducking turned off.

Thanks for any help! Not super urgent, just something i noticed.

Hi, unfortunately, this has been a bug for a very long time. But when you always come out, louder than any of the alert sounds. I don’t even know when this started, but it’s always been an issue since I’ve had an iPhone. My first iPhone was an iPhone 8 when I was 13. It’s been going at least since then maybe even longer. It has something to do with when voiceover is on, but the alerts are always quieter. I’ve never done this test, but apparently on other threads of Apple face people have said that if you turn off voiceover, did you hear the loud alert? Sounds a lot louder. But unfortunately, it’s been going on for a while and I don’t really know a solution to it. I know that it’s been going on because I have my ringer at 100% and that’s always louder than my alert. Sounds even though the volume is up for everything the alerts at 100% as well. Hopefully somebody can give you a solution to this.

I agree that the volume of the default text tone is too soft. I've never tried it with VoiceOver turned off.

My solution was to pick a louder and more noticeable text tone.
I also use a softer ringtone so I can turn it up all the way.

I wish there was a way to control them separately.

This has been an issue for several iOS versions now. It seems to be that all the alert sounds are very quiet when VoiceOver is running. The only one that ever seems to go to the actual volume that you set your phone to is your ringtone. All the other alert sounds are very quiet. I know this because of my friends that don’t use voiceover. They’re alert challenge are much louder. There’s no way to fix this. The most Apple fix it. I don’t know what they did to make this change, but whatever they did it’s not anything that we can change unfortunately let enough of us report it to them. They may be able to do something with their own teachers on their end.

Sad but is it. Not the kind you need an exterminator but a software person. Do not see any changes until 26.4. Perhaps. Long live cats.

Hi. I haven't noticed this bug but I have a customized default text tone I downloaded from Zedge. I have noticed the tones introduced in iOS 18 are much quieter than the clasic tones which is why I downloaded one. I do have some clasic tones set for some family members on my phone.
