For the past 36 hours or so I have noticed a pretty significant temperature discrepancy between the actual temperature and what weather gods reports, both in what the fire god reports and in the current conditions section of the app.
Yesterday was an unusual day in that the warmest temperature was actually yesterday morning and then it dropped all day after a cold front, but yesterday morning the tv news was reporting temps already in the low 40's Fahrenheit but weather gods was still reporting that it was in the 50's, so about a 10 degree difference. This was also probably 3 or 4 hours after the temperature had started to drop, so although I might expect a little difference in opinion between the app and the actual temperature I don't think there should've been as much of a difference as there was. I think there was also a difference in what the fire god was reporting and what was in the current conditions of the app at that time although it wasn't a significant spread.
The discrepancy continued today as the app reported that the temperature had gotten into the upper 40's Fahrenheit this afternoon but on the tv news it was reported that we never got out of the 30's.
I live at most a couple of miles from the official reporting station for my area and I have weather gods set to give me alerts for current location instead of county alerts. I've also played with the weather station setting a bit in the past, right now I have it set on metar but I've also used high frequency metar, and in fact I just recently switched back from the high frequency metar to just metar. I freely admit that I'm lost in those weather station settings so this may be my problem.
Btw I just checked before sending this note and both the fire god and the current conditions are finally reporting the same temperature for what may be the first time since early yesterday morning, and I believe they are likely accurate overall.
Btw I am a paying customer, and I like the app very much and plan to continue using it, but I've been noticing this temperature discrepancy for a while now so it makes me wonder how accurate the other info the app is giving me is. When I first started using the app it was my preferred app because if there was rain expected wg seemed to be even more accurate than what I was hearing on tv as far as how much rain we should expect. I'm hoping then that there's just a few changes I can make in the app settings to bring back the accuracy I've come to expect.
Thanks.

Glad I'm not the only person noticing this.
Hi Troy, I'm glad I'm not the only one noticing this problem. I noticed this problem last night when I was checking today's forecast. Although the current temperature in WeatherGods and the temperature reported by my echo were only off by 2°, today's temperature was way off. According to my echo, today's high temperature would be 44°. According to WeatherGods, today's temperature will only be 38°. Like you, this was my favorite weather app until this discrepancy appeared. I hope it can be fixed.
temperatures between wg and echo are never the same here
Treky fan, I find that the temperature that my echo gives me and the temperature that weather gods gives me has never been the same but that has never bothered me. After all I'm aware of that discrepancy and besides I don't know where the echo gets it's info. It was just that there was as much as a 10-degree difference between the actual temperature that the tv was reporting the other day and the temperature that weather gods was telling me that concerned me. I use wg more for finding how much rain is expected in any particular 12 or 24 hour period in the coming days, and because of the temperature discrepancy the other day it kind of makes me doubt the accuracy of wg. Now as I said that was an unusual day because the temperature was dropping all day, but that wasn't the first time that I'm noticed a discrepancy it just was never that big of a difference. In fact, I believe that before the discrepancy was between what the fire god part of the app was reporting and what the current conditions was reporting. I have no idea if that might have something to do with the weather station I'm using in the app, and that was the main reason I brought it up here.
Temp
I checked with WG and Siri and both were the same. Siri is using the one from Apple. Same temp
temperature discrepancy
Hi Troy,
Thanks for the feedback.
If you find it happens again then please send me an email and I can grab the raw data, compare in the app and figure out the discrepancy. AerisWeather are pretty good at checking this stuff - they recently fixed a bug I found with some Canadian temperatures and tracked it down to a data interpretation problem coming from Environment Canada.
With regards to the weather stations, these are all reporting historical fact so should be accurate, putting aside faulty equipment. The weather forecast and conditions are based on some data from the weather stations, but also combined with other sources.
Changing the weather station type in the app just gives you another perspective on weather in your area, rather than changing the forecast in the app. Generally the forecasts are using weather stations at airports or those which provide METAR data. If your closest weather station is some distance away then it might explain some local discrepancies.
AerisWeather has in the last couple of weeks been taken over by another weather company called Vaisala https://www.aerisweather.com/blog/2022/01/27/announcement-aerisweather-acquired-by-vaisala/
It's been communicated to me that this new company will expand the number of stations, data monitoring etc available to AerisWeather, so in theory we should see improvements in accuracy and forecast.
thanks Scott
I just looked in the app before sending this message, and taking into account that I'm in the US so the temps are in Fahrenheit the fire god showed 62 and the current condition showed 64.
The closest reporting station to me is a small airport that's no more than a couple of miles away, and the metar data shows that it's coming from 2.4 miles away and I think it's the high frequency metar data that shows 3 miles away. This airport is where the official local temperatures and rainfall comes from so I figure that both metar and high frequency metar should be very accurate for my location.
I'll contact you through the app as requested if I notice a discrepancy again like I did the other day, but as I think I said in my initial note on the topic that day was one in which the high temperature was actually in the morning and then it fell all day. Perhaps once AerisWeather gets their changes made that won't happen as much, I know a day like that can be tricky for even the local weather people so I can only imagine how tricky it would be for an app.
