If you want a free option, try CamFind. Its results aren't quite as good, but for the fact it's free, it's a decent option.

The pricing for TapTapSee is either by picture or by time. What you pay depends on how often you'll use the app. They include a few free recognitions when you first get the app, so you can try it for free.

The cheapest option in terms of the number of pictures you can take is the 100 picture pack, which comes out at about 10c in Australian dollars compared with 13c for the 50 picture pack. The saving achieved by going for the 3 months of unlimited pictures compared with the 1 month of unlimited pictures is about AUD$7. To make the 1 month option cost effective, you need to take 130 or more pictures in a month, which I haven't done yet, and to make the 3 month option cost effective you need to take about 105 pictures per month, or 320 over 3 months.

The bottom line is, if you can afford to buy an iPhone on a plan or outright, you can afford TapTapSee as long as you take your usage habits into account, and only use TapTapSee when barcode or text recognition doesn't give you what you need.
