Struggling to pass air pods pro 2 fit test

I’ve had the Air Pods 3 for a while, but thought I would get on the Pro bandwagon. In particular for the noise cancellation. But so far I am a bit underwhelmed. I think this is maybe because they aren’t fitting right.

I’ve got to the Fit Test thing in Settings but every time it tells me I need to adjust both air pods. I’ve tried all the different tips but it doesn’t make much difference. The only way I’ve managed to pass is if I physically push them in place during the test.

I also wondered if VoiceOver was affecting the test as the first couple of seconds of the music is a little quieter, so I tried turning off speech and I tried with a couple of the tips again but it’s not helped.

The way I am fitting them is to push them in, then turn them so the pointy bit faces forward. They seem to fit OK and don’t fall out if I move my head.

So not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if my ears are just weird. I do have some allergies which make my ears permanently a little blocked but currently it’s not affecting my hearing.

Has anyone else struggled with this?

That "pointy bit" is called the stem, and should point down.

Oh OK. I thought the idea was to put them in with the stem facing down, then twist it round so the stem points away from you. I can put them in differently then twist down which I think is what you are saying. I'm still not passing the fit test though. Maybe I need to try the different tips again.
Just for clarification - how do you put them in? Do you put them in with the stem facing forward, then twist down so they are vertical?

Take the airpods out of the case, one at a time. Grasp the stem with your index and middle fingers, as though you're going to squeeze it to pause or play music. The gently push them into your ears, checking the stems are in a straight line at the corner of your ear canal. It's the part just beyond your lobe, the harder cartilage not the soft part. see if that makes a difference.

I think I've tried what you were suggesting, also twisting the stems down and just ramming them in as best I can, but still can't pass the fit test. I tried all the tips again except the smallest.

I'll never get into mensa at this rate...
