During the beta testing or just after the new version launch one user here has reported that he/she had a problem regarding the speed where the app would start to read at normal speed and then significantly slow down.
As I now know the cause of this I wanted to provide the feedback, but my searches for that post were not successful. So I hope that that person will read this and that this might be useful for others too.
The new version has introduced the option to set the speed unit in the advanced speech settings. You can pick between the ratio, WPM, constant WPM, content WPM and constant content WPM.
The problem comes down just to the marketing. Most of apps advertise WPM setting that isn't anything more than a marketing construct. Setting WPM there doesn't have much to do in what you are going to actually get. Speech Central measures WPM on the actual text and adjusts the speed based on that to achieve the target. Constant WPM is a more strict variant of that where the app will try to get the exact value in the last 60 seconds.
Personally I think that WPM is more adjusted to some mind disabilities where it makes much more sense to try to limit the cognitive input that way. But then it is just a setting and everyone is free to experiment and pick what is the best for him - possibly at some high speeds it may make sense for some other people too.
In the next version of Speech Central there will be tip when this is selected so it will be easier to discover/understand.
