There is only one symptom of this: when I start Be My Eyes, it makes the usual iOS app start-up "ding" sound, then in a tiny fraction of a second, practically immediately, I am back on my home screen from where I started the app and nothing happens. No message whatsoever, absolutely nothing.
This behaviour is constant since the upgrade. Closing and reopening
the app, restarting the phone, and even uninstalling and reinstalling
the app doesn't help.
My phone is okay, net is very good, and Be My Eyes used to work
flawlessly before the upgrade.
I have contacted Be My Eyes support right away.
Is anybody else also affected by this? If so, please also contact support as soon as possible.

No issue here
I'm definitely not experiencing this issue. I'm running the latest version of the app and have used it a few times since having updated.
Sorry to hear you're running into a problem though.
Can no longer recognize images
Now, with this new version, I get the following message when trying to recognize a picture either through the share sheet or write in the application
Be My AI failed to respond, reason: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.
photo recognition unavailable
I can confirm that I am also getting the same message,
Be My AI failed to respond, reason: You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details.
getting the same message
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and it still gives me the same message

I'm getting the same message as the 2nd poster in this thread.
Strange, seeing as I didn't think using be my AI cost anything.
@singer girl
Go to your app store. You will be on the 'today' tab. From the top of this screen, you should hear the date which will read out something like, "Today, Tuesday, October 31st, heading". Swipe right once, and you will be on a button labelled 'my account'. Click on that, then on the account screen, navigate by heading and your first heading should be 'updated recently', followed by a list of recently updated apps.
Also, if you swipe left from the 'updated recently' heading, you may see apps that have available updates, but have not yet been auto updated. These you can manually update at your leisure.
HTH. π
bug fix update
They just released an update with bugfixes and improvements.
I tested it and be my AI appears to be back to normal.
No just tried it
No. Just went into the Be my eyes app and it launched as normal
Wow, it is up and running again :)
About half an hour ago a thought just popped up in my mind :) telling me to redo the uninstall / reinstall cycle. I expected no resolution, but why not? And Be My Eyes started again! After going through all the "red tape", I can confirm that Be My AI works again for me normally (so to say wonderfully), both from the app and from the share sheet.
The app calls itself version 5.1.1.1 :), so there was a bugfix update indeed.
I call these phenomena "diseases of infancy". They are not good of course. But the positive side is that Be My Eyes team seems extremely quick to react on them.
Glad it is Probably Solved
Otherwise, we'd have to change the app name to Be My Blind Eyes.
Works
You did not have to install that, because they usually release updates, and it works for me here. That purchase thing I have no idea what was that
To: Singer Girl
If you have automatic app updates turned on, you should not have to update manually. I myself do not leave automatic app updates turned on in case the devs break them, i.e., the Be My Eyes app. I did not update my apps yesterday, and after reading this post, glad I waited.
Auto Updates
I have auto updates enabled for app, but not for iOS updates. I didn't notice the bug with BMAI, probably because I wasn't using it between the time of the first update and the patched update. π€·π»ββοΈ
@singer girl,
No problem. I'm always happy to help those that can accept the help offered without prejudice.
Which ..sadly.. happens way too much on here.
Welcome to the jungle, I guess... π¨π»βπ€

I know everything, but then I'm really an AI bot disguised as a blind person. :P :P :) Oh, and in case your computer says :P :P, that is two emojies of a tongue sticking out. Hah.
Hah
Not sure what you are using to type, but on Windows the emoji panel is accessed with the windows key plus period. The tongue sticking out is a colon followed by a capitalized P, and the smiling face at the end is the colon followed by right paren.
Dictating emojis with Voice Control
Hi Singer Girl,
If you were dictating with Voice Control, there is a command for dictating different emojis. I think it's enabled by default. Apple calls it the <phrase> emoji command. If you know the emoji that you want to use, it might give you a shortcut. The phrase part of the command means a description of the expression. So if you say smile emoji, Voice Control will insert π. If you say laughing emoji, it will insert π. And if you say tongue sticking out emoji, it will insert π. I even tried to insert a πΊ and it worked.
If you want to make sure that command is enabled, turn on or wake up Voice Control and say "Show commands." Swipe until you get to Dictation and activate it. If swiping is too painful, say "Voiceover select Dictation" and "Voiceover activate." <phrase> emoji is the second command. For me that was three swipes or three "Voiceover select next item" commands. Voiceover will tell you if it is on.
Emoji & Me.
For me finding emojis is muscle memory. I've been doing it for so long, that (at least on Mac/iOS) I have plenty in y list of "frequently used".
Also, I have learned in macOS 14.x, there is a new hotkey (FN + 'e'). This does the same thing as Control + Command + Spacebar, in that it opens the emoji panel.
Finally, when I'm on my Windows bootcamp, I open the emoji panel with Windows Key + 'I', this is with NVDA and the Emoji add-on.
All 3 of the OS's I have mentioned have a search feature also, which helps a bunch. π
