I was perusing VoiceOver options tonight and noticed there was a slide to type roter option so I gave it a shot. This seems like a promising way to speed up my typing on the iPhone, but there's one annoyance -- once you find the first letter of the word you want to type, you must press and hold for a moment before it lets you start sliding to type the rest of the word. I didn't find any way of adjusting this delay and it feels clunky to me. Does anyone have tips or tricks for effectively using slide to type with VoiceOver? Can that delay be removed, or do you get used to it eventually?

I don't think there's a way to get rid of the delay.
As I said, I don't think there's a way to get rid of the delay. But there's a good reason why it takes a little longer for you to start sliding in order to type.
When you are typing in other languages, such as Spanish, once you hold onto a letter, it may show you some alternative ones.
For example, a or á or it may show you upper case letters..
This can be changed.
Go to settings>accessibility>voiceOver>typing>keyboard interaction time. Hope this helps.
