Hi guys, this is not really VoiceOver related, so I hope not to be too much off topic.
Here in Italy we are noticing that Siri in iOS 16 is behaving a bit worse as compared to previous versions, for example when asking to call a person it could say something like: "I don't understand who you're refferring to", or: "What do you want to know about this person?"; in other cases the answers are not always what we expect. Could you tell me your experience about that in America or wherever you live?
Bye!

in the USA too
Hey there, friend from Italy. For me, Siri works expectantly most of the time; however, it sometimes doesn't comprehend, who should I call. for example When I ask her to call my mother, it says whom would you like to call. or I did not get it.
Siri stinks!
For me it is horrible. I tell her to call someone and she asks what I want to know about said person. It is almost unusable!!!
Thank you
I'd like to thank both who answered my question, this lets me know for sure that it's not only an Italian issue. Chad, are you from the U.S. as well?
Bye!

I have this bad experience too.
hi.
yes, it's getting worse and worse.
with each update, it gets even worse than the previous one.
cheers.
Siri is, special
Especially bad that is, it is absolutely useless, you can’t even call a person
SIRI works for me
Real sorry to hear about all the problems people are having. SIRI is stupid and sometimes slow, but a little patience and SIRI works fine, in my experience.

Yes I am from the US
Something you could try is…
Something you could try is going into the entry for that person in the contacts app and add a "phonetic spelling". That can hopefully help Siri understand who you're referring to. I've had some success with this method.
Agree with Oliver
Specifically for iOS 16, I think the changing of the Siri Chime has had a negative impact on everyone. I find I do have to wait longer then I used to, before actually giving Siri a command. Beyond that, however, I agree with all the rest of you. Siri has gotten very frustrating over the last few major updates of the iOS system. I use Siri very heavily, and I find myself getting aggravated a lot with it. I don't recall which iOS major update it was, but when they started doing the on device learning for the AI, I think that negatively impacted me as well. But, Despite all of that, I still use the heck out of it. Here's hoping that Apple will get a clue and fix this thing soon.
It's awful! I'll tell her to…
It's awful! I'll tell her to open something and then she plays a song instead, or sometimes I'll ask her to open something and instead she gives me directions to that spacific company or she'll say "This is what I found on the web about (insert company name here). So for example I will ask her to open my banks app and she'll show me directions to my bank or if I ask her to open supersense she'll show me web results about supersense instead of opening the app. I'm not sure if we should send these issues to apple accessibility or who we should send these to. If we do send it to apple accessibility I'm sure they'll forward it to where it needs to go.
Sucks
She sucks. She is worhts than poop. Making calls, sending text via siri is bad. Wish for Alexa in iPhone to be able to make call.
Alexa is better.
I can use siri but agree that alexa is better. It wouldn't surprise me if google home was good too.
Siri isn't perfect, but...
I use Siri fairly regularly and haven't experienced any worse problems than before iOS 16. In fact, I've actually noticed an improvement in one area at least. At night just before I go to bed, I say: "Hey Siri, turn on do not disturb." In iOS 15, I'd often hear the chime while I was still speaking the command. Since I upgraded to iOS 16, the chime always sounds right after I finish speaking the command and her response seems to follow more quickly than it did in iOS 15 and before. The same is true in the morning when I say: "Hey Siri, turn off do not disturb." In case it matters, my phone is usually locked when I issue these commands, although I have issued commands when my phone was unlocked with the same results.
Just today, I said, "Hey Siri, call Pizza Hut on speaker," and she responded correctly and made the call.
BTW, I actually prefer the new, lower, 2-tone chime, and I especially like that Siri waits until I'm done speaking to issue it. All this said, I'll admit that sometimes Siri misunderstands my commands, and when that happens, it's frustrating.
Bug with "Hey Siri"
Hi, I'm from Italy but I use Siri mainly in American English for playing music from Apple Music. I have this bug: if I say "Hey Siri" followed by any command it crashes. I'm using an iPhone XR with iOS 16.1.1.
If I press and hold the side button it works regularly. In English has less problems than in Italian.
Thank all
Ok guys, thank all the people who answered my question. I also know some people around here who are reporting problems in managing Whatsapp via Siri, for instance telling her to call someone via Whatsapp or send them an instant message.
Last but not least, glad to have a response from a person on my same country... Yeah I mostly wanted to know even what users from other countries were reporting, but it's beautiful.
Bye!

Same in Spanish
Hi I just was going to write a post to say exactly the same as this one. In Spanish it is a mess, and sadly I’m glad that these things are not happenning just in Spanish. Now it is very difficult to call someone with siri.
I was wondering if there was an option to reset it, but I think there is not.
Apple must do something quickly.
How to Reset Siri in 11 Quick Steps?
I found a pretty thorough article on how to completely reset Siri and dictation.
https://www.technowifi.com/how-to/how-to-reset-siri/
I'm still on iOS 15 so I don't know if this will have any effect on iOS 16 and the bugs that people are having. You do have to read through the ads to find some of the content. Navigating by headings helps go through the steps. The full text could be missed unless you scroll through the ads.
I hope this is helpful and that it works for you.
Warning about How to reset SIRI in 11 easy steps
Resetting SIRI might be a very good idea. Be aware, however, that when you reset SIRI, you will lose what SIRI has learned about the way you speak. You will have to teach SIRI all over again to recognize and understand your speech. After a few weeks, though, this shouldn't be a problem any more. Simply be sure to carefully pronounce every word, gradually relaxing into normal speech over the course of a few weeks, and you should be fine.
Siri aggrivation.
I think Siri has a hearing problem. I'll ask him to read or send a message to someone, and he'll say, in an annoyed tone, "To whom". And, of course I'll have to say my request again. Also lately he's saying a lot more that he didn't get that and to try again. I'll try that Siri re-set. Thanks Bobcat!
Anybody try the reset yet?
Hello, I was wondering if anyone use the reset of Siri, and how it worked out for them?
So far, some improvement
OK, so I went through with the Siri reset procedure recommended above, and so far Siri actually seems to be catching more of what I say, I also find it helpful to make sure the Siri alert noise finishes making it sound before speaking to her also seems to help, I am not a fan of this new sound, because it’s harder to hear in crowded locations, But at least Siri seems to be acting closer to her. Sorry self.
Thanks for the warning
Thank you Bruce.
