Serious problem with Voiceover and recent calls using flick.

Hi everyone, I'll copy you an email recently sent to Apple's Accessibility service, about a very serious bug that I also found in Ios 16.1. If someone else has found it, can they report it too? Hopefully Apple will correct it.

Hi, dear Apple Accessibility. I have an Iphone SE 2020 with IOS 16.1
just updated, and the problem I am submitting to you has not been
solved.
Opening the phone app, and going into recent calls, I used to flick,
search for the person who called me, and double tap to call them back.
Starting from IOS 16 VoiceOver calls a random person, instead of the
person I have chosen, and among other things, I only notice this when
it is too late.
Embarrassing situations have already occurred to me, where a person I
did not want answered, and I embarrassed I had to apologize by saying
that I called the wrong number.
I understand that this problem occurs randomly, but I ask you to
please investigate because it is serious and embarrassing.
Even with IOS 16.1, out of 3 calls made the problem occurred once.
Thank you if you want to remedy a problem, which is very serious for me.

Given this issue has been around for a year plus I figure there are only two ways this will get resolved. 1 reach out to a publication such as macrumors.com They published last year when Apple removed key siri functions such as not being able to return missed calls check voice mails etc. It was restored very quickly. Second is to get someone like Jonathan Mosen involved He has a huge following and has contacts. Short of that I think there is close to a 0% chance of this getting resolved.

Hi, I have no this issue with Voice Over since iOS 16.1
I had this bug before, but I don't experienced it with iOS 16.1
I am using an iPhone 13 Pro.

I haven't had this issue, now i will because i said it. I respect you don't want to report the same thing over and over, but let me tell a story. A friend who is an incredible programmer and knows their stuff, was downloading a windows program only to get a toolbar they didn't want or ask for. Knowing how to go into bios etc, they did everything with no end in sight. so, they got pissed off and wrote a program that emailed the company every five minutes for a month straight. It said basically, Can I get the uninstall file for this toolbar? Can I get this uninstall for this toolbar? Can I... You get the point. Within a week, the owner emailed the file, took off the bloatware and hired them to design something because they recognized they didn't play games. The point of my story is, keep bitching. I honestly don't think there are as many willing people to go onto a beta cycle with their primary device and I respect that. But if the same issues are being reported by say one hundred people, and apple can't reproduce it for whatever reason, we have to get tougher. Oh, forgot, I talked to a senior Apple advisor off the record. They gave me so much info that I knew was true. such as they to their knowledge had no one with any type of disability, physical or invisible, work under them. That just proved my theory that Joe Q tester, voice over on, touch, yep, send it. I hope it does get fixed. Keep pounding them. They deserve nothing but brutal assault until we get a better foothold. Not just voice over, but inverted colors, closed captions etc. we can't just sit on here, we need to blow their comps up with tweets, and emails and whatever else we can think of.

I realize this is another work around, and i stand by everything i said in my last post. But i wonder if you say Siri, call Lea, they will actually do it. aslo, voice four used to be a little deeper female but now it sounds the same as voice two, even in the sample. Is this just me?

That's often how I make calls now.

I shouldn't have to use Siri because Apple Accessibility doesn't care about fixing critical bugs. Apple needs to prove that accessibility is a "core value" and fix this issue.

one work around is to create a speed dial for those people you call a lot and put them on your home screen.

This is absolutely a major bug. It happens to me a lot more than one out of three times. I have tried various gestures to see if I can. consistently duplicate the problem or find any pattern to when it occurs. But no. It is not consistent. Quite embarrassing. When one reaches the wrong person and not knowing until they answer.

I've reached out to people that write tech articles and write about Apple. I got it included in this article. Hopefully it will get more attension now. https://www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2022/11/02/apple-ios-16-1-iphone-wifi-problem-new-iphone-update/

Thanks, I enjoyed reading Gordon Kelly's article, where he also reports my messages with the description of the bug. We hope that more attention will stimulate Apple to work on it.

Thanks to Dennis for finding a way to get these bugs included in that article. I've had the obnoxious Wifi issue mentioned since the first release of iOS 16.

it is about reaching out to multiple people. It doesn't hurt I got in touch with this person in the past and asked a few questions. so I was determined.

This has reoccurred for me throughout the beta cycle. I have an iPhone 13 pro max. My workaround is a little more unconventional. I have a hardware keyboard for my phone and this seems to resolve the issue when I use it. For me, the problem is that I will double tap a name and call the person immediately to the right of the person. I'm trying to call. It really becomes awkward.

I'm interested in this article. However when I click really all I see is stuff about wifi. Can somebody help?

It is down more in the article.

Nice that Forbes of all companies is paying attention to VO concerns! That's a huge step in the right direction! Anyway, I see the section now, Ambro's direct quote (good job with that by the way) and other info too. This is also overall an awesome article, I saw a bunch of "Me Too”s (as they're now called apparently) on Apple Support about Face ID (because I check it sometimes) and others too. Another one I'm not sure was on the forbes is iPhone making you sign in after a restart of the phone, and (this one a little less widespread) podcasts app sometimes won't play in Newest to Oldest order, both of which have been experienced by yours truly. Now, we're getting off topic here, but anyway, thanks for helping get the word out!

Since I reported to Apple Accessibility that the bug is present in ios 16.1.1, I was asked to reproduce the bug and submit a diagnostic log via a link. I have carried out the procedure, and I undertake to repeat it for each Ios update from here on, until the bug is fixed.
