Hello. I am looking for apps that I can use to meet new people. I have no vision, so I'm trying to find apps that don't rely very heavily on pictures. I don't care if they're dating apps, apps for just making friends, whatever. Being able to find people locally and all over would be nice, but it doesn't really matter. I mean, local is always nice so if you do like a person you can meet up if you so choose, but either way, I just want to find apps that allow you to meet new people. It would help if it took into account interests and stuff so as to find people who have things in common with you, but I'm open to different ideas. The main important things are that pictures aren't a big factor, and that it's accessible withvoiceover. Any ideas? My twitter name is @MissAnonymous94 also if anyone wants to meet me on there. Thanks a lot.

Well
I don't know if meet me is accesible with Voice Over, but that might be an option for you. Facebook is definitely accessible with Voice Over. I generally use it to read my science articles, for the Thai learning groups that I'm in. I don't really talk to my friends on there. I save all of that for when we're together in person, just like the old days.
that really depends on the kind of thing your looking to do.
If your looking for audio, then there are things like melt and zello that are very community based. There is also an app called meet up, which puts you in touch with groups in your area that meet for different things, and YickYack, kind of like twitter but with no usernames, and it takes posts from your current location.
Twitt Anber
What about for those of us who do not use twitt. How we contact you?
Here some apps to try
These may work:
* Facebook (not always perfect, but if you have the triple-click set to VO on/off, that can help),
* Twitter (generally easier - also try with different apps, and on Mac),
* Skype.
Holger: many of my friends use Skype for texting (or audio; up to you).
Donʻt also forget
* email - or FaceTime Audio if you are comfortable enough with audio.
Or old-fashioned phone call (I suspect many of us hate the phone? I do - so FaceTime Audio is a HUGE thing because I can define how I want to be accessible in audio).
Tommy Edison is amazing - https://twitter.com/blindfilmcritic and http://blindfilmcritic.com - he uses also
* youtube - Iʻve never tried to actually upload anything there. But several others have: Breaking Blind, Yesterdayʻs Wishes (e.g. if you search for blind people watching movies, or blind girl doing her own makeup, youʻll find these channels) are some really good examples. I think that could be really fun - especially if you have someone that can help you with the camera or on the road so it feels less awkward than just ʻtalking to yourselfʻ when you try to film something.
Other things Iʻve seen my friends use:
* Audioboom,
* Instagram. Instagram is great; you can take pictures with it, or use the built-in camera with voiceover, or use taptapsee (I guess?) for the pictures. Tommy Edison has even some youtube tutorial about how he uses it. Itʻs just amazing - whenever you want to show something to the world (the same kind of stuff everyone would; what does a pretty view you like, or your book, or a nice meal, or friends together look like), there.
Oh, and blogging. Find a blog platform that works for you. Writing can be a lot of fun. Wordpress works quite OK; would you others have some blog app or software suggestions?
Apps
I haven't tried Meet me yet, but I have pretty much all the other apps mentioned in the comments besides Instagram because I have no vision and therefore miss out on a lot of the content there, since it's so reliant on pictures. I just got Melt a few days ago and like it so far, but it crashes lots. Like, really, a lot. More than any app I have on my phone at the time. I use YikYak, it's a really fun app. Things like Skype are great but not for meeting people, they're better for talking to people you already know. I'm just trying to make some new friends and find people who have common interests with me, that's the hardest part, the common interests. As far as how to contact me if you don't have twitter, I don't know. I guess Skype, my Skype name is Anonymous380. But don't call me on there, just chat me. Maybe sometime I can talk, but almost always if someone calls me I won't answer it, especially if I haven't text chatted with them already. It's also nice to have AppleVis, because a lot of people who use the same apps will sometimes have similar interests and stuff too, and twitter is awesome. Oh yeah. And I didn't try that meetup thing yet. I think I saw that it's not the most accessible. But i'll probably get it and try it, and also set up that Meet me account thing and see what that's about. Thanks for all the suggestions guys. :)
apps for meeting new people
Usually, I meet people by getting out and engaging in conversation or striking up a conversation on the bus :p. But in all seriousness, the best way to meet new people is probably twitter as following followers of your friends seems to be a pretty effective way of expanding your circle of friends. for professional networking, I would create a linked in account and keep it up to date.
Anber
I only use skype myself to talk to people already know. I do text but not facebook or twitt.. Hope you have luck finding a good app for what you are looking.
Meeting locals
I really wish there was a good app for meeting people locally. I mean, there is Yikyak but mostly the people that get on their teenagers… And I am a little over 40, so that doesn't always work out very well…
Have Fun
Well, let us know how things go with Meet Me or whichever you are going to try. Be careful and have fun.
Highly recommend Meetup
Hi everyone.
I'm happy to let you know the Meetup app is very accessible with VoiceOver. I went to an event with an electronic dance music group I'm a member of. Everyone I met are extremely friendly and fun to hang out with.
So, if you're looking for an app that'll let you meet people in your area based on what your interests are, Meetup is the answer.
Hope this helps. :)

Chick out who's here
Hi,
Some of these apps do sound intresting. Might try a few. The one I've been using for a few years is an app call who's here. There is a lot to do in the app. But if you're looking to find people in your general area I've found who's here works for this. yes, there are some pictures in user profiles, but the rest of it is text. It is accessible to a very good degree in iOS 8. However, not so much in iOS 7, though that might have changed. Itsx a big app, and a few people have asked me to do a podcast, but I've not found the time needed to record one yet. But feel free to look, at it.
Its used a lot for dating and meeting up with people, but you can easally use it to just chat with people who are near by and are also using the app. I would highly recomend you upload a picture when setting up your profile though. The app uses a few details of your profile to match you up with people who you may have an intrest in. One of these is picture. Almost all who's here users have a picture, so if you don't have one, the matches you'll get will be in other parts of the world.
meetup
Hi, I'm new to IOS but I found the meetup ap for iPhone to be less than accessible. The first page has 2 unlabelled buttons, one is to sign in with facebook and the other was to sign in with google but it took hitting the buttons and going into pages that I didn't want to find that out. I brought this up with the ap developer who said that emails sent to support@meetup.com would be responded to in terms of how they upgrade the ap.
So I messaged the NFB GUI mailing list asking people there to mail support@meetup.com with the subject line accessibility for IOS ap.
Someone there mentioned this website, and I noticed this thread. There was also another thread that looked like it may have been posted by a developer. When I mentioned my experience on the thread I got a reply that the accessability had declined and the post would be updated. I noticed that the post has now been taken down.
I have been using meetup on my laptop for a while now and am satisfied with it's accessibility although I've noticed a few things like when making an RSVP it wont confirm whether I've selected +1 or not, but the RSVP goes through and the confirmation mentions the size of rhe RSVP so it's not really a problem, just not as accessible as it could be, but nothing to complain about.
Also, - for Ken, there is a better demographic on meetup so it's easier to find your cohort.
DJ Hey20 if you find it totally accessible plese let me know how because I am finding a lot of unlabelled buttons, like when I was able to sign in and I was looking at groups voiceover would just say "join group" without saying what the group was.
Nonetheless, I found the IOS ap to be difficult to navigate and would invite people to try it out and mail support@meetup.com with requests to make it more accessible or message me and tell me what I'm doing wrong.
and to the person who started this thread. I have found meetup great for meeting new people, you can search for local meetups or ones farther afield.
What about Vorail?
Vorail is OK if you are interested.
