Hi. Now that FlickType no longer works, I'm looking for something similar, something that will allow me to type faster without having to drag-and-lift as I do on the conventional IOS kbd. Can anybody help?
But there is Braille Screen Input. I was a big fan of FlickType, but when it was discontinued I couldn't stand normal typing so I just started using BSI. And now that they allow you to calibrate the positions of the dots like Humanware's Touch Braille it's so much more useful.
Since flictype got nicked for the Apple Watch, I use BSI. It's a bit slower than voice typing but significantly less maddening than fixing errors and deleting extra words
I've tried the Apple swiping and find it is either a steeper learning curve than I'm willing to climb, or a pale comparison to Flick Type. I miss that app so very much.
I have zero Braille skills, but perhaps learning to type Braille is what I'll have to do. Even if I don't learn to read it.
Hi,
I’ve been using Braille screen input since it came out.
I absolutely love it! I once tested myself, just to see how quickly I could type, and ended up typing 25 words a minute, on the phone! That was a few years ago, but I’m still pretty fast at it. When I use it in public, sighted people are amazed. They always ask me what I’m doing. I just tell them I’m typing.
If you've got a device with a qwerty keyboard, check out uebonline.org. They have an excellent course. It uses said qwerty keyboard to simulate a perkins style keyboard. There are some iOS-specific gestures for new lines and whatnot which can be found in the Voiceover gestures in settings.
You can still type within the FlickType app and send directly from it, or copy and paste. Obviously it's not as convenient as the system wide keyboard was, but it's very usable and still by far the best for typing using VoiceOver on the iPhone in my opinion. Give it a go!
I've always hated dictation because it never gets my text right and I'm a privacy freak so my logic was if I'm going to dictate a message might as well call instead.

Unfortunately none exist

BSI
How good at braille do you think you have to be for BSI to be a reasonable approach? I'm really starting from the basics with braille right now.
You'd probably do all right with the basics.
You can set your Braille to uncontracted if that's what you need. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.
Seconding BSI

BSI Typing Tutor?

Is there a Braille typing tutor for the phone?
I love Braille screen input!

I'm not switching to an app…
I'm not switching to an app just to type. Frankly, I would rather put up with voice typing until the end of time.
Yeah no.
