Not sure if I forgot it, or if I never knew. The Short Text channel is quite capable of reading hand writing.
My printer is out of ink, or I suspect its ink just dried up from not being used, and I needed to leave a note for someone. So I got out my line-guide clipboard and a pen and paper. Then I wondered, is the pen out of ink or dried up too? Yes, I could have just used a pencil, but I wanted to use the pen.
I'll make a test handwriting run, which I am told mine still looks like grade school cursive..., and use the Handwriting channel, I thought.
I opened the app, which was set to Short Text. The camera happened to be looking at the paper, so it started reading. The interesting thing is the short text picked up all the words, and the Handwriting channel did not. I only took one shot. That may very well be the way I was holding the phone, or any number of other reasons.

Consolidation
The Seeing AI crew should probably just consolidate those 2 channels into 1. Just make Short Text the end all be all for handwriting or short printed text, and get rid of the handwriting channel.
@Brian
If they had an option on short text to capture the text for review, like the other channels, it might work. I have to swipe through things by word or character a lot. An example might be a phone number written on the back of a business card. The short text is good for a quick look, as it is now, to figure out what something is, then switch to one of the picture taking channels for careful reading etc.
With longer short text, like holding it over the first page of a letter, I find myself having to pull the phone away and cover the camera as it reads because the slightest movement can start the whole reading process over again.
