At least once per week when I open Seeing AI, I have to accept the agreement terms. Is this a new thing with them that Seeing AI needs this to be done so often? Any ideas? Thanks.

I’ve noticed this too. I’m 95% certain it’s when they push out an update to the app.

Maybe not quite 'at least once a week', but I also get this from time to time, although for me it's usually a screen describing the updates rather than the user agreement, at least for me. In any case, it does sometimes annoy me when I'm trying to read something in a hurry, but I don't know how else they could advise users when changes have been made or when they have updated the user agreement and it requires us to acknowledge the changes, I mean, it's a free app....

What annoys me the most is the then popping up a tutorial on every feature. Yes I've been using Seeing AI since it first was available, I don't need the tutorial again! And like everyone here it is always when I need it in a hurry. And if I need an option further up the picker like product ID, I have to get rid of three tutorials!

I too routinely encounter this, although for me it typically occurs after installing an iOS update (either public or beta). Go figure 😕

Hey, Same as everyone else here, its incredibly annoying when I want to find out how long something goes in the oven for to have to agree to terms then individually knock out each and every tutorial like I’d have forgotten how to use the app after my phone updated itself only to then have the disappointment of it not being able to read the info I need. It makes me feel a little despairing and not having to jump through those hoops before finding out Seeing AI isn’t going to be able to help this time would really make life a lot less frustrating. I am almost certain it happens after every public beta update rather than after a seeing AI update. I wonder if anyone else here isn’t on the beta program and still having the issue every week or so?

Hi, I am not on betas, and I am confident this happens far more often than iOS updates. I think it is when Seeing AI updates, it loses its state for some reason. I just looked up the version history, it does get a lot of updates, I'll paste it here. This is good but wish they'd fix the state rememberence.

For an App that hasn’t noticeably improved in a very long time in my humble opinion thats a heck of a lot of updates. I assumed it was beta updates based on the frequency alone but hadn’t thought to look at the update history. Has anyone contacted MS to ask if this can be fixed? I guess the benefit will be as soon as they fix it we’ll get it within a day or 2 in the next update. Lol.

As with all apps it would be nice to have a full list of fixes, changes and additions. I thought Apple were making it a requirement to post the change log about a year ago?

Hi All, really appreciate the bug reports here. We've heard of this, and it seems to be effecting only a small number of users, but it's good to have several reports here in one place.

This is not intentional from Seeing AI's side. Every time the app updates via the App Store, for some users all preferences are wiped, including whether it's your first time using the app. This is incredibly strange, and we have not been able to identify what is causing this.

Do any of you have a similar experience with preferences wiping with other apps? Could it be related to not having much free storage?

Hi,
I haven't seen resets with other apps. I'm using a iPhone Mini 13, and it has 91Gbb free storage, so can't imagine it is a memory shortage issue. Appreciate you looking into it. Seeing AI is still one of the best inventions to come to iPhone and I'll keep using it, just may yell at it from time to time. <Smile>

Happens to me too, other apps don't behave this way and storage is not an issue.

I have an IPhone SE 2nd gen, & it does this to me, too. I think it has something to do w/an app update. It is seriously annoying, as usually, when I need to use it, I need to do it then, not mess around w/some user agreement stuff that I've agreed to multiple times lol. It's a 64gb model, I'm not sure how to find out how much free space I have, but I'm pretty sure there's at least 20gb available, very possibly more. & if this is going to continue, then it really would be good if the tutorial could be a button that you can press on your own as opposed to being presented w/it right out of the box.

Thanks all for the info. We're looking into finding a fix, plus also possible short-term solutions to make this less annoying. Again, thanks so much for your patience.

One question for the community: are we sure this happens only after app upgrades? If you quit the app from the App Switcher, and reopen it, do you get license/tutorial? What about if you restart the phone and open Seeing AI? Understanding this will help us narrow down the problem.

The weird thing is since ios15 this isn't the only app I've noticed this with. Priar to ios15 even when an update was pushed out this behavior did not occur no matter the app. Makes me wonder if this is an ios15 thing. It's annoying to say the least.

Thanks for keeping us posted here.
I don’t have this issue after quitting the app from the app switcher and/or restarting the phone. I’m on the iOS beta program and at first I thought it was happening after iOS updates. But now I’m fairly confident that it’s happened more frequently, and maybe after updates to the app itself. I’m not 100% certain though, and will definitely keep an eye on this next time there are updates to either.

Hi again Saqib. My iPhone 12 mini updated from iOS 15.3 beta 1 to beta 2 yesterday. When I opened Seeing AI today, I had to go through the tutorial screens etc.
So on this occasion at least, it appears it was an iOS update that triggered it.

We've been looking into this, and I thought I'd update the community:

We believe it is related to the new prewarming feature of iOS 15.

We're working on a fix, but until then, if you encounter the first-run experience again, just quit the app from the App Switcher, and open the app again. While this is not ideal, I imagine it is less annoying than going through the first-run experience again. We do hope to have a fix out ASAP, so this is just a temporary work-around.

When you open the app the second time round, it won't have been "prewarmed" by iOS, and should launch normally.

The issue is still present.

Thanks for adding the ability to reorder channels, which helps a little.

It's been nearly seven weeks since this thread was launched. If the root cause of the issue has still not been identified, perhaps it would be best to re-implement this feature so that it is inherently less problematic. Instead of auto-displaying the release notes and per-channel instructions, how about making them available via the menu?

I don't see why it can't be the way it used to be. Tutorials were out of the way unless someone wanted to access them and you could read what you needed to on opening the app. This is more than a little awkward and unnecessarily time-consuming.

As I posted above, I ran into this problem yesterday.

This morning, I updated some apps. With this issue fresh in my memory, I checked for Seeing AI, and I can say with certainty that it was not one of the apps to update. Nor did I update iOS.

However, I launched Seeing AI this afternoon, and again it displayed the introductory information, as if I were a total noob who needed to be told that I should point the camera.

Fortunately, the workaround mentioned above (killing the app in the app switcher and relaunching) restored the app to an instantly usable state.

This bug is a real head-scratcher.

I'm not experiencing this behaviour. I'm running the latest iOS developer beta on an iPhone 12 pro. I never even had this problem when I was running public releases. It's strange how some people are having this issue and others are not.

I'm having this issue as well. Seems like every time I invoke the app, a tutorial & terms appear. I don't keep it in my app switcher because I'm afraid it'll use up battery life.

I've switched download app updates automatically off in settings, & so far no t&t's when opening Seeing AI. I'll be interested to see if it has any effect, &, if so, what. I'll post either the next time t&t's mysteriously appear or a couple times within a reasonable period, ie, 4 weeks, if not.

But it does seem that the tutorial should be optional, as in, available from a menu item & not presented at what the app believes to be a first time use. Truthfully, that feels really condescending to me.

Not sure how I missed this thread earlier. I encountered this issue back when I first upgraded to iOS 15, where the preferences were reset every few days or so as described above. After a while the problem disappeared, but then it came back a few weeks ago, I think after an iOS update, but I'm not sure of that. That said, it's been some time since I last had to deal with the issue, though I can't say for sure if the problem has gone away again or if it just hasn't been long enough since the last occurrence of the bug.

I should note that I am only seeing this on my iPhone SE (second generation). I also have the app installed on an iPad Mini, and the bug has never occurred there.

@PaulMartz, in your app store settings, is download apps automatically set to on? If so, perhaps try turning it off & see if the t&t's still appear. I have found that since I turned that setting off, I'm no longer getting that, though I'll add as a proviso that Seeing AI hasn't been updated, either. But I'm certainly in agreement w/others that the tutorial should never launch at startup.

Just letting you and everyone know that, I, too, have been having the issue described here for some time now and am still having it.

It’s amazing it’s taken all this time for this to, maybe, get fixed.
