I am using an Apple iPhone XR. when I enter the search tab in music, I can only seem to search my library. The option does not appear to search Apple music anymore. I have checked my menus to make sure necessary choices have been made in the settings. Has anybody got any idea what I may be doing wrong?

Hello Brian, The Search Tab is at the bottom of the screen. I'm guessing you are in the My Library tab. Stay safe and healthy.
Searching Apple Music
I am double tapping on the last tab on the bottom right hand side. It brings up search and only my library. It’s certainly used to bring up Apple I’m sure. I am confused.
2 tabs near the top of the
2 tabs near the top of the screen once you put in your search. They work more like radio buttons. One searches the Apple music catalog and the other just searches your library. You might have that one selected.
Note: If using Braille screen input to type in your search, you first need to 3 finger flick left or right to toggle contracted Braille off and then on again. I find that if I don’t do that first, contractions don't seem to work.
