Hi all,
I wonder if people might be able to give me really simple recommendations for a voice recording app for ios, the sort of thing you might use for notes, memos reminders, lists etc.
This isn't for me, its for someone who I know who is in her 70s, and has made very good progress with using the iPhone, but she needs a lot of training and repeating of steps to get comfortable with doing things on her iPhone.
she uses a parrot for recording things like shopping lists phone numbers etc, but I said I would see if I could find out about something really simple for her for the iPhone, she has already tried the built in Voice memos app and really didn't get on with it.
really she needs something as simple as possible with no fancy bells and whistles something as basic as possible.
I wonder if I could get recommendations please? I will also have a look myself on applevis but thoughts would be appreciated as I can't test all the recording apps out there, and being younger I am used to more advanced apps.

Hi,

My favorite app for recording things has been RecUp, previously known as DropVox, because it's really simple, but it requires a Dropbox account, because that's the only thing it can save audio to (at least as far as I know), so that may be a problem.
It's very simple; it records in mp3, the quality of which can be switched to higher/lower in the settings.
Once you have it set up, the only thing you gotta do is hit record, once you're done hit stop, and that's it; it will upload the recording to Dropbox automatically.

Just Press Record is really good; it costs a bit of money but only something like £3.99 or something like that and it’s much simpler to use than Voice Memos! I actually downloaded it after coming on here to seek a recommendation for an app that’s more efficient than Voice Memos and this was the one recommended to me and I’m very grateful for the recommendation as I’ve used it as my primary recording app ever since!
Hope that helps :)

I'd try the My Memos app. It's free and has ads, but they don't get in the way of recording. They've got their own space. You may be able to remove them, but I'm not sure of that, or the cost or the like. I used it before and liked it. And no account needed!

Hi thanks for the recommendations, I tried my memos but the adverts kept opening and taking over the screen and it was difficult to close them but I did see an option in settings to purchase to remove them. But more serious than this is that whenever I start the app VoiceOver seems to switch to using the internal earpeace that you would use if your on a phone call, I couldn't see an option for disabling this, and I know my friend really wouldn't get on with this well if this feature can't be disabled.
I looked at just press record for her, and the transcription feature is certainly neat, but I don't know if she will find the app two complex to use. the siri shortcut is a nice feature for starting recordings, now if they also had one for playing back recent recordings she would certainly find that helpful.
