iOS and iPadOS

Hi everyone,

I am absolutely fuming with a capital F and a load of other words in between. I really need some help before I chuck my iPhone straight out of the window or use it as a doorstop.

I have a severe disability consequently making me electric wheelchair bound and unable to walk. For many years my iPhone was just a toy for other people as I could not use it until they launched the accessibility feature last year. I have been reinvigorated by using my iPhone and iPad with a mouse.

However last night I have just updated my iPhone to 13.4.1 and everything has gone to pot with the mouse and cursor settings which have clearly changed.

The cursor is sluggish even with the maximum track speed turned up. It’s like the sensitivity has been turned down.

The cuser dot like a target has gone

More frustratingly I cannot use web applications such as Safari if I want to drag the screen down usually I click, hold and move the mouse up. Now it’s just highlights the text on the webpage.

Can anyone help I’m scared to update my iPad as this is the only thing that is working at the moment.

Hi. I'm sorry you are having so much difficulty. Unfortunately, most of us on this forum don't and can't use the features that you use, so I'm not sure how much help we will be.

One thing I can say is that iOS 13.5 will be out very soon. It was released to developers and testers on Monday, so it should be released to the public any day now. Hopefully it will help.

The only other thing I can suggest is to contact Apple accessibility to see if they can help.

Yes, even here in the UK, we tend to get it later in the day than when it is released in America because we are several hours ahead of them, but essentially the same day

Apple recently introduced the Voice Control system for using your iOS device without gestures. You can navigate, select, and control the phone with this feature using only voice commands. The feature also works with VoiceOver but I hear that sometimes the system may be confused by listening to VoiceOver output. so it might work easier if you had ear buds.

I haven't used the feature since I don't have a problem with gestures, but I believe there is an AppleVis podcast on this relatively new accessibility feature.

Hope that helps.
