questions in facebook groups

Hey guys!

I've got a quick question about Facebook groups in regards to the Ipad-OS. app.

Has anyone figured out how to read a question in a Facebook group? like for example

Jan Smith asked a And in Facebook book club

I can tap on the view community post but can only see answers.
Vo. will not read the question.

Is it just me? Has anyone figured out how to read the questions and answers? Because I'm only seeing this in groups On Facebook. And I just started seeing this feature a few days ago.
Sidenote, I can read posts and that kind of stuff just fine. It’s only those questions that I’m having trouble with.

I’m running the latest version of the app on an iPad seven, which is running the latest version of iPadOS. Thank you all in advance! And I hope you all have a happy, safe, and healthy Thanksgiving celebration! :-)

I'm noticing this to. I've contacted Facebook about this. I do't have this issue on my Android device...

I might do that too. Unfortunately I don’t have an android or any other device to test this with other than my iPad.
Take a look around yes I would love to hear about it though.

I do not experience this bug on the pc, only on IOS. I'd suggest commenting on the Facebook Accessibility page or tweeting at @fbaccess. Public shaming here is super warranted.

I've made contact with Facebook. You can't post on their page, @ least I can't. But I did fill out their accessibility form. And I requested that they do 1 of 3 things.
1. make this feature accessible
2. Turn it off for certain profiles
or 3. If they cannot take 1 and 2 suggestions then I requested that they abandoned this feature.

I know that might seem harsh but considering the fact that a lot of FB. features that have been introduced lately have not incorporated accessibility into them. Used to be that FB. put @ least a little accessibility into new features and then they'd get better over time. But lately that has not been the case. In my opinion @ least.
I hope that this gets fixed soon. And I'd incourage you guys to contact them as well.

With that being said, if any one of you have a workaround until this issue gets resolved then I'd love to hear about it. Because this is a popular feature in groups @ least the ones I'm in. I see multiple of these in my newsfeed multiple times a day.

Hi,
I’m not sure if it came with a recent update to the app, but I’ve noticed this too.
I’ll see if I contact Facebook, & report back if they respond.

I actually hadn't seen one of these until now, but I just did today. try triple tapping it. You should end up in a page where you can read the question, or at least I did.

Hey! I just seen another one. And I tried your method. And for me I couldn't get it to work. How many fingers did you use? Was it a 1-finger double tap? or a 2-finger tripple tap?
Deborah Bing that it got me was that it made the noise like it was opening something. You know, the noise that would happen whenever you 3-D touched on some thing. And nothing.
It will open the page. I did one, two, and I couldn’t get any of those to work. I would do a three finger but I have that programmed as my gesture to get to my dock. I could change it if I needed to.

This is a one finger triple tap. the old one finger double tap and hold gesture might work too.

thank you. I'll have to try it. Of course now that I want to find one of these to try this on, I can't find one in my newsfeed. But then again that's how it always works. lol
I'll try and report back my findings.

Hi! I get the same results. I just tried it again today since I finally had 1 of these appear in my newsfeed. And I got the same result.

Ok well I accidentally managed once to do this and read the question. I used the rota to set to lines then swiped down to the question then double tapped with one finger. It worked. I thought great I've solved it. However, I've never managed to get it to do this again. The fact I did it once suggests to me this should be something easily fixed if FB can be bothered to get their finger out.

I am also noticing that the questions feature isn't accessible in FB. I am going to contact the FB accessibility page. I see several people who post questions in various FB groups and I am also unable to read or post questions with VO.

I came here today to ask that exact same question and then noticed this post. The only way I’ve been able to read the question is to take a snapshot of it and then get envision or equivalent to read it but it’ takes longer and doesn’t feel as instant. After reading the above comments I’m also going to access the FB Accessability page and register my complaint. I’m looking forward to a fast resolution but am not holding my breath

Hello! I agree with you it's not that instant. Didn't even think about taking a screenshot though.
Do you turn VO. off before you take the screenshot? Or does the question come up when you have VO. on and then you can take your screenshot like normal? And is there anything you do before taking the screenshot? Like double-tapping on the question for instance?

I'm only asking because double tapping hasn't doone anything for me.
I did. Haven't heard back from them. And issue is still there. I'm hoping for a speedy resolution to this myself. But considering the factt that it's Fb. we are talking about here I'm not holding my breath on that one either.
I think anyone that has this issue should contact them. The more people that set up a howl, maybe the more likely it will get fixed. And not only get fixed, but get fixed quickly.

I'm starting to believe that facebook really does not have an accessibility team, or at least it seems that way with latest updates. In my oppinion they are a joke! I've also seen these questions in blind groups that I'm in. I think facebook makes your posts into a question, I don't think the user sadly has much control over this.

By KE7ZUM on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 17:52

Agreed. I think that if they did have an accessibility staff, they are long gone. It's sad, but oh well, not much we can do but keep sending them feedback for what good it will do in the end, which might not be much.

By Dawn 👩🏻‍🦯 on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 17:52

I think they do. They were just brought in late into product design and feature design. If they are even brought in at all.

By Fred on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 17:52

Cording to my side of the system the page looks great if you can see but can’t get the question no matter what ridiculous

By Caroline on Friday, December 25, 2020 - 17:52

Hurray they’ve fixed it and someone else has said the same on here in an earlier post today. I couldn’t find a contact field in their Accessability section but found it somewhere else on their site and contacted them that way. I’d like to think they’ve taken notice of our comments and hope I’m not being naive 😀😀😀

Hi Dawn. Sorry I’ve not replied to you before now but for some reason I wasn’t notified of new comments to the thread See my comment below as youl be delighted to know that issue has now been rectified 😀

Can you please try and resubmit? I think part of your reply got cut off. I seen every thing up to the grinning face. Thank you! :-)
O man. That's not good. Glad to hear that the issue was dealt with and rectified.

Hi Dawn
There was nothing after the smiley face and to hear the question just tap once with your index finger and voice over will say the name of the person has asked a question in such and such group and will then continue to read the post to you

Ok. Thank you. I'll have to try that! I tried to find a question this morning to test if things had been fixed. But of course, I couldn't find one this morning. Because you know, I was looking for it. Lol

🤣 that’s always the case. Hope it doesn’t take you too long to find one

I finally found one this morning! Yes that is always the case! I hate when that happens! LOL
But I can safely say that it’s fixed for me too! Yay! Because these things were starting to invade my blindness groups that I’m in.
