Hello, I am planning to acquire a new HVAC unit for my house from Hiller. They have offered three thermostats from Honeywell: the Honeywell T-6, the Honeywell Pro 5000, and the Honeywell Pro 8000 which is WiFi programmable. What I need to know is whether the iOS app is accessible for Honeywell products. Do you have any recommendations?

I have a Honeywell leak detector, although that product line might have been bought by something called Residio, since that's what the app changed its name to a while back.. In either case, it's never been very accessible.
I have a Sensi smart thermostat. That's the model name. I think they were bought by Emerson. It has physical buttons, and accessible app, and HomeKit as well as Google integration. And, it has physical buttons. I'm not sure if there are any models now with physical buttons, but I think it's important. At least I can adjust the temp if the smarts aren't working. nest thermostats are probably still accessible, since Google has a good track record of accessibility, if not usability in my opinion. But again, I'd look for those physical buttons. HTH

I was not happy with its accessibility. Several uttons were unlabeled, and it was hard to set up the password for the user account for some reason. I switched to Ecobee, and I am happier with the Ecobee. However, even though all the buttons and features are accessible, the user interface is not always clear or straitforward. But you will be less likely to screw things up with ecobee, like accidentally setting the heat set point to 45 degrees. Back to Honeywell, I found the web portal easier to use than the app However, this is a highly personal review and your mileage may vary..

It's minimally accessible, and by that, I mean I can get to all controls, and by swiping around, I can even infer their meaning, but it was clearly not designed with VoiceOver users in mind. Like any such app, it's possible to develop a workflow if you're stubborn.. Turning the temperature up and down, switching between AC and heat, and toggling continuous fan are all easy to do. Altering the program is a bit more challenging.

I can't speak to what systems the app works with. I assume TCC works with any Honeywell smart thermostat.

Here's an old blog I wrote about smart thermostats. The original post is about the Lennox app and system, but if you read the comments, you'll find thoughts on alternatives. Note that the Lennox app, which was a struggle to use, got an update that made it impossible to use. So definitely avoid that one.

Almost all of the buttons are labeled and voiceover reads all of the thermostat controls.
